Hi guys - that time again. We had a highly popular book in July, yet a VERY anemic discussion. Let's turn that back around in August, and get things back to normal.

As always, rules are as follows:

1) Each person is allowed ONE vote, either a nomination OR a "second"

2) Once a book is "seconded", it is added to the poll list

3) Once five books are on the poll list, this thread closes and voting begins

4) No self promotion allowed - if outside vote stacking or promotion is discovered, a book will be DQ'd automatically.

Nine Princes In Amber by Roger Zelazny.

Deadhouse Gates by Steven Erikson.

It'd be a shame if this group never progressed beyond GotM, especially because starting at DH the series really takes off and straightens out some of the wrinkles present in GotM.

Since we are nominating classics, I'm gong to nominate The Broken Sword by Poul Anderson.

I would have seconded 9 Princes in Amber, but Mark beat me too it. That's a great classic too. And so is The Black Company. But I liked the Broken Sword best of the 3 and it was published the same year as The Two Towers. So it's impossible for it to be derivative of Tolkien.

I also like the choice for Nine Princes in Amber. Since that was already seconded, I'll nominate Monster Hunter International by Larry Correia.

Politics aside, I've heard it's a really interesting read and I've had it sitting in my TBR pile.

I nominate The Magicians by Lev Grossman.

I nominate one of my favorites ever, To Ride Hell’s Chasm, epic fantasy, standalone, two male leads facing a mysterious disappearance, a varied cast of characters where everyone counts, culture clashes and great worldbuilding. Would love to reread it!

I strongly second Deadhouse gates! I really liked the first one and I think it's about time we read the next part of the story!
