At night, the fire roars up into the sky, dancing firey fingers reaching towards the heavens.

message 2: by ~ Devine ~ (new)

~ Devine ~ Erebus stood at the campfire, just watching the fire. He pushed his blue hair out of his face and behind his ear. He looked up once and glanced around before sitting down and watching the fire once again. He sighed and yawned a little as zoned out, staring at the fire.

message 4: by ~ Devine ~ (new)

~ Devine ~ Erebus didnt notice that the girl had sat down beside him. Not at first at least. He sighed quietly and looked up, he jumped when he saw someone beside him. He just looked at her for a moment unsure of what to say.

message 6: by ~ Devine ~ (new)

~ Devine ~ "Hi." Erebus said back, awkwardly. "Um... Erebus but you can just call me Z." He told her with a shrug. He glanced at the fire then back at her.

message 8: by ~ Devine ~ (new)

~ Devine ~ "My parent?" He scratched the back of his neck. "Hades." He said and glanced away from her. "What about you?" He asked her back.

message 10: by ~ Devine ~ (new)

~ Devine ~ He nodded and bit his lip. "Sorry if this is awkward at all. Im not the greatest at socializing." He told he with a small shrug.

message 12: by ~ Devine ~ (new)

~ Devine ~ Z smiled a little bit and looked at her. He then looked back at the fire and pushed his hair from his face. He was unsure of what to say next.

message 14: by ~ Devine ~ (new)

~ Devine ~ "Um... my sister. Supposedly she's here but i haven't seen her around." He shrugged and glanced back at her. "What about you?"

message 16: by ~ Devine ~ (new)

~ Devine ~ He nodded. "Your brother? He's James right?" He asked her. "Ive seen him around here somewhere." He shrugged.

message 18: by ~ Devine ~ (new)

~ Devine ~ "No i haven't talked to him at all. But he seems nice." He shrugged and leaned back a little bit. "I havent talked to very many people. " he thought for a moment. "Now that i think about it. I believe James is in my cabin."

message 20: by ~ Devine ~ (new)

~ Devine ~ "Dragon." He said with a small smile. He looked back at the fire and watched it for a moment.

Tess approached the campfire, mesmerized by the flames moving. She reached her hand out as if to touch it, but quickly pulled away when she noticed someone else was there. "Sorry," she said, blushing. "Do you want to be alone? I can leave if you want," she suggested, not wanting to intrude.

Tess shook Miles hand in one motion, and grinned. She nodded in the direction of Blaise, as if to greet him. "I'm Tess," she greeted. "How long have you been here?" She asked politely, slightly adjusting her glasses.

"That's fun. My sister and I just came here too. Our parents decided she needed to learn some manners, and hoped this camp could help straighten her out. I'm only here to keep an eye on her," Tess said with a smile, rolling her eyes a little. Tess sat down where she was standing, right across from Miles, but near the fire.

message 27: by Kaitlyn, Director Ali (new)

"Oh my sister is Darley. I suggest you don't go near her though- unless you want to be pranked," Tess said with a small smile. What her parents didn't know though, was Tess actually helped Darley with her pranks occasionally, although her sister normally took the blame, wanting the attention. Tess looked at Miles and instinctively put a hand on his arm. "I'm sorry," she said, feeling empathy for Miles. "At least you have your sister," Tess added, looking on the bright side.

Tess shook her head. "I can't believe she didn't tell me about that! Well, she warned me to eat early, so I guess she did," Tess laughed, moving all her hair onto one shoulder in one graceful motion. "She's nothing like us. She looks like my dad, but she doesn't have the same personality as anyone. Now me, I don't look like our parents. I'm like my mother though, personality-wise," Tess said with a warm smile.

Her face fell when Miles said he should've been there, and she assumed he was talking about his sister. "Miles, you can't always be there for everyone you love," she said seriously, looking him straight in the eyes. "Forgive and forget. Don't dwell on it- you'll become more focused on the past than the present or future, and that's never a good thing. Let it go. I bet she has," Tess said with a small smile.

Tess snorted. "Try living with her. You have to be very cautious," she said with a small smile at all the memories. Miles shifted position and Tess awkwardly took her hand off of his arm, blushing a little. "You're welcome," she said quietly, before grinning. "Darley? and me? We were closer when we were younger. We don't tell each other everything, but we still talk. Sometimes I feel as if we're not in any way related," Tess laughed. "It would explain a whole lot."

"Well that's nice," Tess said with a sigh, trying to imagine being closer to her little sister. She snapped out of her daydream and replied. "Well, we get along. It's just that with her disobeying constantly, and my parents slowly losing their patience, it really puts you in an awkward position. You want to be close with your sister, but you don't want to upset your parents.. My dad doesn't do well with anger. He can be a real beast," Tess said, laughing a bit at her own joke.

"Well I was always the mature one. We would hang around and talk, and she normally would convince or blackmail me into helping her out with some prank. Being so near in age, we were close. We pulled harmless little pranks, usually on a few servants in our home. But then it got out of control, and here we are now," Tess said with a smile, sadness in her eyes. She hated conflict- it always made her feel horrible.

Kaitlyn | 656 comments Mod
Tess appreciated Miles's sympathy, but put on a smile. "Hopefully," she said, not very convincing. Tess knew her sister wouldn't straighten out. At least not until she moved out- got away. Tess laughed as Blaise caught the cracker mid-air. She looked at the fire, and suddenly exclaimed "oh!"

Tess quickly pulled her backpack off of her back, grinning. "Do you know if there are any long sticks over here?" she asked. Tess was grinning a very cheesy smile as she unzipped her bag and pulled out a bag of big marshmallows along with some graham crackers and chocolate bars. "I always come prepared," she laughed, genuinely happy.

Kaitlyn | 656 comments Mod
Tess laughed when she saw the grin on Miles's face. She began opening the marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate when he came back and sharpened the sticks with a knife. They worked silently, excited for the treat. She reached for the stick and put a marshmallow on it, doing the same on his stick. "I bet I love them more," she said with an equally goofy grin on her face.

message 33: by Kaitlyn, Director Ali (new)

Kaitlyn | 656 comments Mod
Tess raised her arm in surrender, keeping a strong grip on her marshmallow as she turned it. "Okay, you win," she laughed. "So, what's that other half of your life?" she wondered aloud. Tess took her golden brown marshmallow away from the flames, constructing the masterpiece that was her food. She took a huge gooey bite, putting a hand over her mouth to hide the bit that wouldn't fit into her small mouth.

Tess snorted as Miles ate his marshmallow, which wasn't a great thing to do while eating. She swallowed her huge then gasped for breath. "Me and my incapability to eat properly. I get that from my father," Tess said with a grin. "Well at least we have two things in common," she said, still smiling. "Holy Fuzz you play guitar?" she asked, internally screaming, but keeping a somewhat cool and calm demeanor. "Are you actually good?" Tess asked.

"Oh that's cool," she said calmly, feeling an absolute need to hear him play. Tess loved music, especially live. "You should try it. Or have someone else write it, then perform it," she suggested. Tess loved to write, but didn't know if she could make a song. Maybe the lyrics.. She took another bite out of the s'more, careful not to take too much. "Do you like fall out boy?" she asked suddenly, breaking the silence that had occurred.

As soon as the word Centuries left his lips, Tess groaned. "So you don't know them. Just their popular songs," she said a bit disappointed. "The Phoenix is a good song, Save Rock and Roll, Thanks for the Memories, Our Lawyers made Us change the name of this song so we don't get sued, Sugar We're Going Down, Dance, Dance. Amazing songs. Don't tell anyone though- my parents don't like that genre of music and would get a bit mad," Tess said with a small smirk. She had noticed the marshmallow stuck to his lips, but didn't want to admit that she had stared at his lips.

Tess laughed and shook her head. "Amateur," she teased. "I look at their song title so I can buy the record of it," she said casually. "I normally just look at the singer and buy the album though," Tess shrugged, like it was perfectly normal for a sixteen year old to have a huge record collection.

"It better be," she said with a smile, before laughing at the cheesy wink he gave.

"Oooh do you know Evanescence?" she asked a bit enthusiastically. "That'd be fun! You should go run and grab it," she repeated with a cheesy grin. Tess noticed his cheeks burning, and blushed, looking down. Since she was so pale, it was very noticeable. She just hoped Miles would just think it was because of how close they were to the fire.

Tess laughed. "Well what music do you like?" she asked after Miles had returned. She had waiting someone impatiently, flipping her stick around her fingers quickly, like a drummer would with their drumsticks. She stopped talking as soon as he begun playing, taking the music to memory. Tess closed her eyes and listened carefully. She had always wanted to learn guitar, but her parents disapproved. Tess had found her passion though- the drums. She loved how loud it was and the anger you could get out while banging the sticks. Tess had to sneak out constantly though, not being able to practice in her own home out of fear of getting caught.

She had forgotten all about her question when a horrible screeching noise came from the guitar. She winced noticeably, but then he answered. The Beatles are good. So is Bon Jovi. If you like Metallica, you'd like Evanescence. I've heard of Metallica, I just haven't listened to much of their music," she admitted. Her eyes fluttered opened, her eyes adjusting to the light.

Alex didn't know the song, but listened carefully as he played perfectly. She laughed to herself as he began mumbling the lyrics under his breath. "I would join in if I knew the song," she said with a small smile. "How old were you when you learned?" Alex asked curiously.

She listened as he transitioned into a new song, one she didn't know. "Oh gosh I feel like I don't listen to much," she laughed, realizing she didn't really know the same songs as him. "Wow. About ten years ago?" she wondered aloud. Tess was impressed that he taught himself. "I know Shot through the Heart, Livin' on a Prayer, and You give Love a Bad Name," Alex told him.

"Shot through the heart, and you're to blame, Darling, you give love a bad name." Tess started. She listened as Miles played the instrumental, then began singing again. "An angel's smile is what you sell. You promise me heaven, then put me through hell. Chains of love got a hold on me. When passion's a prison, you can't break free. You're a loaded gun. There's nowhere to run. No one can save me, The damage is done!" she belted out.

"Shot through the heart, And you're to blame. You give love a bad name. I play my part and you play your game. You give love a bad name. You give love a bad name." Tess tucked her hair behind her ear and stopped, blushing.

Tess had been blushing from the moment Miles started laughing. She could tell he enjoyed it, it was just a bit awkward, having someone laugh as you sang. "Thanks," Tess mumbled. "No point in trying to achieve fame when your future is set in stone," she added with a small frown.

Tess looked away. "Well what can you do about responsibility? My kingdom will not be ruler-less without me. My sister has already made it more than clear that she doesn't care about royalty or power. It's up to me. The expectation of my ruling has been there since.. well, since i was born. It's set in stone," Tess said, looking into the fire with tears in her eyes.

She turned so Miles couldn't see her face, and quickly wiped her eyes, trying to be strong- to not show weakness. She unzipped her backpack, grabbing her sweatshirt out of it and pulled it over her head. Tess's glasses were crooked and her hair a little messy now. She fixed her glasses, not caring about how her hair looked.

Tess got goosebumps as Miles smoothed down her hair, uncertain how she felt about the contact. It made her feel- alive. "True. But have you met my parents? If I'm lucky, I'll be married by the time I'm fifty. My parents are very.. particular. Especially my father," Tess said, sighing. A smile crept onto her face. "That's true," she said honestly. Miles was laying on the ground and Tess was sitting. She decided to lay beside him, staring into the sky. She felt better being around Miles. "So what do you like to read?" she asked randomly, thinking about the book she was currently reading.

"I know my mother will at least.." Tess said, trying to look on the bright side. They were touching hands, which was quite distracting for her, as she could feel the warm of his hand. Tess naturally ran cold though, so it felt nice. She thought about how it would feel if she held his hand, and hesitantly but gently put her hand in his, their fingers lacing together. "Oh I love to read. Anything and everything. Well, except morbid things," Tess said with a grin. "One of the many traits I got from my mother."

Tess looked at Miles and laughed, having a pretty goofy smile on her face too. "Books and doors are the same thing. You open them, and you go through into another world," Tess quoted with a grin. "I think of life as a good book. The further you get into it, the more it begins to make sense," she quoted again, a huge grin on her face. "Oh if you want to see something amazing then come over to my library sometime. I seriously could live in there. I seriously wish I could live there," she laughed. "Oh all I would do in the summers when I wasn't busy was read. Every spare moment," she admitted, blushing a bit.
