What is the August read? Need to get my book order in so I can start right away on August 1st.

It looks like, from the poll, it will probably be Circus Mirandus. That is NOT the official designation, however.I just read Mesmerized. That book would be an interesting one to carry with me as a sub - have the kids speculate on how they could prove the Dr. Mesmer right or wrong.

I just finished Mesmerized and I love it. My 5th graders do a writing unit on the American Revolution. My mind is already working over ways to use this book in the library to help support that unit. Do you think the Newbery Committee will consider it or will they dismiss it as a NF picture book.
Who is the author of Mesmerized? I'd like to look for that one.

It might have a chance for a Caldecott.
