I actually liked Superman 3 too. I certainly didn't hate it. Not sure I'd say love but it's watchable.
I liked Green Hornet. At the time I worked at the theater and saw how unpopular it was, but I thought it was funny.I liked Ghost Rider a lot (not the sequel) and always was surprised at the negativity.
Cool question. I really like the Fantastic Four movies with Chris Evans, Jessica Alba, etc. I know that there are some issues, but they're fun.
James wrote: "Cool question. I really like the Fantastic Four movies with Chris Evans, Jessica Alba, etc. I know that there are some issues, but they're fun."I am a fan of the early FF movies too.
Micheal Chiklis was great casting as the Thing.
So, can superhero movies count? (If they weren't based on comics?)One of my favorite superhero films is The Specials (one of James Gunn's [Guardians of the Galaxy] early films). I can't say that the public didn't like it, because not a lot of people have seen it. But if you love superheroes, find it. It's amazing.
I also really enjoyed My Super Ex-Girlfriend. I thought it was a fun mashup of corny romantic comedy and superhero film. (41% on Rotten Tomatoes; 31% audience score.)
As far as comic book movies -
Can I say I really kind of loved Josie and the Pussycats :)
People hated Monkeybone, but I thought it was fun.
I went into RIPD without any expectations and liked it.
Regarding Superman 3? I kind of enjoyed it. Super-corny (sorry) but I loved Superman fighting his dark side. I think that made the movie for me. But, oh god, I really hated League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I can enjoy a fun bad movie, but to me that was just a painful bad movie... :)
Erin (Paperback stash) *is juggle-reading* wrote: "I liked Ghost Rider a lot (not the sequel) and always was surprised at the negativity."I was really disappointed. I thought it should have taken itself more seriously - even though it is a comic book movie. I didn't hate it, but it was too full of goofiness, movie cliches, and Cage's overacting for me to really enjoy it.

Oh, yeah. I also enjoyed Daredevil and Elektra. They weren't the best superhero films ever made, but I didn't hate them like everyone else seemed to.

RIPD is basically 'MiB' with ghosts.
Weak script, but I loved Bridges and Reynolds together.

I got that parallel - but I felt like it was its own film. It didn't seem like a MiB rip-off while watching it. At least to me.

Not saying they took a script, crossed out 'alien' and wrote in 'ghost', but the whole structure and story is almost beat for beat MiB.
Which, I didn't mind, but I can see why that perception hurt it in the box office.
and trivia fact, both movies started out as comic books.
True... I just heard so many people call it a "rip-off" that it annoyed me :)
But, yeah - rookie / fish out of water gets drafted to paranormal police department is pretty much the same :)
Speaking of cheesy DC movies, anyone seen the 40's cliffhangers featuring Dc heroes? The best were the two Superman ones. The second one has a great Lex Luthor.
There were also two Batman serials, Congo Bill, Blackhawk, Spy-Smasher, Captain Marvel, the western Vigilante and the pilot Hop Harrigan.
Cheesy, non-PC and the Batman ones especially do suffer from having a budget of about ten bucks but fun to check out.

So, what are the comic book movies that you love, but the general public did not?
My list:
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: a bit of a mess, but at the same time, a fun mess that toned down some of Moore's dark sex obsession.
Catwoman: It's a bad Catwoman movie, but if she was called 'Puma Girl", it would be considered a fun, cheesy film.
Her arch-foe gets super powers from tainted skin cream, hard to get more comic book than that.
Superman 3: Pryor was bad casting and the humor is overdone, but that final fight is basically Superman vs Brainiac.
Who's next?
