Hi, Reggia. Good topic. (Sorry I've been lurking of late. I haven't forgotten you, dear group members. I think of you every time I log in. I hope everyone is well.) I have been marking things to look up or favourite passages or things I want to mention in reviews as I read some books. Usually I just stick a little scrap of paper in to mark the place and go back and make notes later. Mostly I've been doing it with favourite series.
Hi Callista... thanks for chiming in! Charli, most of the time I do it, it's what the thought of wanting to write something about it one day... not necessarily reviews (like Callista) but possible blogs or whatever. I love a good turn of phrase!
I occasionally highlight if I'm using my Kindle. I have jotted down quotes on sticky pads and put them around my desk. I don't have any organization or goals for it though.
Good point! I usually only do it on reference books for quotes I want to find more easily. I also choose the blue more often so it isn't as glaring.
Please correct me if I am wrong but... it seems that the highlights and notes that are made on e-readers may not be private. I wonder this because I've noticed in the past that pop-ups listed how many times someone else highlighted the same thing. Is there a function on Kindle, Nook, etc that can make it more secure?
On my older Kindle, I know there was a setting that I used to not share that information. I don't have it anymore, so I don't have it to check. My newest Fire has a setting in my account that says to connect to social media to share notes and highlights - and you can either link or unlink to those accounts.

I have always wanted to learn French (I remember almost nothing from the 2 yrs in high school). There seem to be many words and even whole phrases that we use regularly while speaking English, e.g. hors d'oeuvres; c'est la vie; many times I come across them in reading. I've begun to compile them in a journal of sorts.
Those little post-it tabs have come in very handy for the many quotes I want to remember from books I have read. It takes away the need to highlight. Although, today's e-reads make it easy to highlight and save notes.
