Help! I'm in the worst reading slump I've ever been in!

Please recommend me one of the BEST books you've read THIS YEAR. Preferably any Horror or any Fantasy (except Epic Fantasy) something fast paced, written in 3rd person POV, and WELL WRITTEN.

Quentin Wallace (quentinwallace) | 2516 comments For this year I liked Pines (Wayward Pines, #1) by Blake Crouch

It's horror and it's a trilogy, but they move FAST and none of the three are that long. You could probably read all 3 pretty quickly.

Michael Benavidez | 1203 comments I always recommend Imajica or The Gunslinger

message 7: by Michael (new)

Michael Benavidez | 1203 comments Definitely been wanting to read those two

Angela Myron (angelamyron) | 12 comments A Monster Calls was awesome too.
And The Night Circus--gorgeous.

Thanks for the recs, my friends! I'll check them all out...

Already crossed off Mikey's rec, The Gunslinger.

Angela, I've read A Monster Calls. Loved that one too. I've got The Night Circus ages ago but forgot to read it. I'll get to it soon. :)

Keep em coming! Thank youuuu

Michael Benavidez | 1203 comments just a heads up, book 5 is a bit of a slow one, but still worth a read to get to 6 and 7.
and don't forget to read The Wind Through the Keyhole (The Dark Tower, #4.5) by Stephen King after book 4 (I think? it's an in-between volume, I just forgot which one lol)
Oh it's before Wolves of Calla!

Also I'm having a difficult time with it. There's so many American culture references that I don't understand. It takes me away from the story. :(

message 15: by Michael (new)

Michael Benavidez | 1203 comments ahhh yeah that's Stephen King for you haha ^_^'

:(((((((

message 17: by Michael (new)

Michael Benavidez | 1203 comments it does get a bit better though, the more you enter Mid-world the pop references kinda begin feeling like a sort of imaginary world all together, so it all blends. I gotta ask, have you read Salem's Lot?

message 18: by Kat (new)

Kat Desi (katdesiwrites) | 878 comments Mod
Nope. So far I've only read Carrie, The Mist and The Shining.

message 19: by Michael (new)

Michael Benavidez | 1203 comments ahhh okay ^_^ it won't take away from your reading, but they all do share the same universe/multiverse :)

Good to know. I'll add that to my list. :)

message 21: by Michael (new)

Michael Benavidez | 1203 comments yay! you're going to be a busy reader lol

Kat Desi (katdesiwrites) | 878 comments Mod
I've always been a busy reader ???

message 23: by Michael (new)

Michael Benavidez | 1203 comments true lol, but these are thick books. King always had such a large story to tell haha

message 24: by Kat (new)

Kat Desi (katdesiwrites) | 878 comments Mod
Haha, yeah I know. King did say in the author's note section that this The Dark Tower saga had been brewing for 17 years, was that right?

message 25: by Michael (new)

Michael Benavidez | 1203 comments more or less haha he started the story idea when he was 19 (but never finished it). I forgot when he published the book, but also just finished in 2012? maybe? I can't remember lol

message 26: by Justin (new)
