So, what did everyone think? Were you envisioning Robert Downey Jr, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jonny Lee Miller or someone else while reading? How true to Conan Doyle's original creation do you think these recent adaptations are?

Linda (lulutp) | 4 comments I actually didn't think of any of them but I guess Robert Downey Jr would be my choice. However I had a hard time picturing Watson because I have seen him portrayed as a portly middle age man and I didn't get that impression from the book.

Jonelle (joco) | 16 comments Watson was definitely not what I had envisioned. He was described as a pretty youthful and athletic man (running in the moor). The dog was pretty creepy, but I loved the descriptions and the ingenious way of making the dog "supernatural"!
I enjoyed my first foray into Conan Doyle!
While I could guess a bit of what would happen, he still had a few twists!

Betsy | 4 comments I thoroughly enjoyed watching Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Downey Junior and Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal of Sherlock Homes and they are excellent in thier own right. Robert Downey played a much more comical version, Miller's version was cynical but for me Benedict' portrayal is more to the mark. But in saying that I also enjoyed watching Basil Rathbone as Sherlock, a black and white version (1939). They're all brilliant actors.

Leah Lynch | 4 comments I did not like this book at all. It has never taken me so long to finish such a short book. I love Sherlock (the Cumberbatch version) and even enjoy Jonny Lee Miller's portrayal in Elementary. I wanted more sarcasm and wit like we see in the television shows and more of the relationship between Watson and Holmes. Since they were separated for most of the story, we didn't get to see this.

I did like how the story ended and wrapped up. I just wish it had unfolded with a bit more intrigue and entertainment.
