TSH R:10-Mellow Yellows
Hi guys, looking forwards to playing this round with you all. I was on team yellow last time around too :)
As a help to Captains, I have made individual spreadsheets for each team (there are tabs at the bottom of the game spreadsheet). I will be filling them in for you so it will not be necessary for you to make a team spreadsheet unless you really want to :)Game Spreadsheet (there is also a link in post 2 for this)
Any volunteers for captain? I can do it if no one else wants to. I have no creativity when it comes to team names though. Any ideas?
Mellow Yellows, Dandelion Divas, Yellow Honeys, Saffron Scavengers, Hunt Honeys, Honey Hunters, Golden Readers, Golden HuntersMy brain is now dead :D
I like Mellow Yellows also. Sure beats anything I can come up with in my head...it's not pretty in there! :)
I also like Mellow Yellows, so I guess that's it. Thanks for coming up with all the great name ideas, Jade!
What strategy would you ladies like to use? On past teams I've been on, we usually all tried to get as many of the words from other categories the same in a week as we could to knock them out. Hope that makes sense.
I think that sounds like good strategy, Amanda. I found a book with juice and also found a word from all the other categories in that same book. It also has the bonus word but I don't know if we can use the same book for bonus as the weekly word.
All of the words, including the bonus word, need to be in one book. Can you post the words you found in your book so the rest of us can try to find a book with the same words?
The words I found are: Group A: ribbon, police, doctor, basement, treasure, phone
Group B: pillow, car, brown, midnight, towel, boss, computer
Group C: puppy, ceiling, currency (dollar), silly, valley, enemy, flash, baked good (bread), fork
And juice and bottle, of course.
They're all from A Killer Crop by Sheila Connolly.
I didn't realize that we all have to find the same words (besides the weekly ones).
We don't have to, but we won't get a point for the word until we have all claimed it so most teams try to coordinate the words claimed for the other categories too.
I plan to read:
Group A: Alcoholic Beverage, Police, Doctor/Nurse, Basement/Cellar, Ribbon, Treasure, Phone
Group B: Automobile, Brown, Midnight, Scar, Towel, Bathtub, Boss, Arrow, Computer, Pillow
Group C: Puppy, Ceiling, Currency, Rose, Silly, Valley, Flash, Baked Good, Fork
Group D: Juice
Bonus: Bottle
How does a team decide on the three extra words usually? Does the captain just call them? Sorry to have so many questions but this is my first time playing. Also, I found other words in the same book so I'm not restricted to those three.

I've only played once before but we just found a book with the 2 required things then everyone listed what words from the other groups were in their book and the captain chose which ones to use.
I have played on teams that did it different ways. Since your book also has other words, I think the best way is to list all the extra words your chosen book has from each group and then coordinate as a team to knock out the words that everyone has in common. My book has all but a couple of the extra words and I edited my post above to list them. After the others post the books they plan to read, we can coordinate.
The book I'm thinking of has...bottle & juice
Group A: doctor, basement, phone
Group B: scar, towel, bathtub, boss, computer, pillow
Group C: ceiling, currency, silly, valley, flash, baked good, fork
lol, I thought the words on all them had to be exact so I was looking for "automobile" and "baked good" exactly! Ha, what a goof. :/
Jade has not checked in yet, so I just sent her a PM. If she can find basement, boss, and currency in her book, I think we should go with those as they seem to be a few of the harder words that we have in common so far.

My Review:
That was not what I was expecting! I didn't realize we'd have a paranormal/alien in this story. It was so entertaining. And as a bonus we got to see a bit of a few couples from some other books. It started out a bit on the depressing side with Carter and his hopelessness but quickly picked up when he visited John who had been sending Carter these horrible stories to publish in his "going out of business" magazine. John was the cutest thing ever with his 50's...well everything. He was in a total time warp. But it's when Carter decides to go on a road trip with his bff that the real fun begins. I wanted to be on that RV with them. We got a bit of the woo-woo sci-fi stuff but their relationship was the main focus. Loved that Carter started his new life even when John wasn't there. This one made me a bit teary in a few places. Great read.

Silver Sparrow is the story of two girls living in Atlanta, Georgia in the 1980's who have the same father. One girl, Dana, has known most of her life that her daddy had another wife and daughter and she felt like an outsider. The other girl, Chaurisse, has been clueless about her father's deception all of her life. You know the two girls will meet and all of the secrets will come out at some point, but when it happened it was not as explosive as I thought it would be. The author has a nice, easy writing style and I liked that she explored the POV of each girl. It was a good story.

Review: This is a cozy mystery set in Massachusetts. The main character has recently moved to the area to decide whether to keep or sell some inherited property. In so doing, she decides to stay and build up the orchards that exist on the property. As she is at a crossroads in her life, having recently lost her job as a financial consultant and having been dumped by her boyfriend, she decides to use her business and financial knowledge to try to turn the orchards into a profitable business. She finds herself liking the area and the people and surprisingly finds herself very content with her new career as farmer. This is the fourth book in the series and involves Meg's parents for the first time as they try to unravel the mystery behind a local professor's murder.

Review:
After reading book one in the Game Maker series and being briefly introduced to the intreaging character Maksimillian Sevastyn I was looking forwards to getting started but have to admit I really struggled with this one.
You have a Siberian Politician/Mafiya boss who falls for a Cuban Escort, I think one of that main things I struggled with is that the author chose to use both their native languages thorough the book. I was so concerned with trying to work out what the word meant that I was totally loosing the plot.
The book contained a lot of sex, BDSM and various sexual activity. Whilst this was enjoyable in places I just didn't feel any connection with the two characters and the book just left me cold and bored.
Juice: ~ I scuffed to the kitchen and found orange juice Pg 152
Bottle: ~ Máxim joined me outside, with the wine bottle in one hand. Pg 28
Basement ~I sickened in that dank, freezing basement Pg 415
Dollar ~“After that, Kovalev’s billion dollar syndicate was in chaos Pg 334
