I thought I'd start a thread solely dedicated to talking about audiobooks.
I never really understood the purpose of audiobooks up until I started doing a lot of driving around for work and decided to try listening to one in the car instead of the boring radio all the time and suddenly I was hooked.
I've since finished quite a lot of audiobooks this way as well as when I am doing some gardening or working at home on something that doesn't require too much concentration.
One of the best audiobooks I have listened to definitely has to be Under the Dome and Storm Front was really fun too.
What does everyone else think about audiobooks? Do you like them or hate them?
Are there any you would recommend as being a must listen?

I have to recommend anyone who enjoys a bit of paranormal reading that you listen to The Dresden Files on audio by Jim Butcher. It starts off with the first few books read by James Marsters from Buffy fame (still my most favourite show of all time!) and he's just such a good narrator. He really brings the stories to life!

Becky I love audio books. I listen to them at work & in the car. I'm currently listening to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith & I am loving it!

That one's been on my TBR for ages but I just keep putting off reading it. Glad you're enjoying it on audio!

I think I am listening to the worst audiobook narrator ever right now.
I recently started listening to A Clash of Kings and the narrator is just awful. I think his name is Roy Dotrice and his voice is so tinny and is making the story almost unbearable.
Such a shame, I was so looking forward to getting through the second in this series as an audio but might need to go back to reading it on my kindle again I think....

Becky if he was the one who read the first Game of thrones book i'd have to agree!!! He's part of the reason I only gave it one star!!!

Yep, I just had a look and he is the same person. Well, at least I now know it's not just me who thinks he's the worst narrator ever!

That's such a shame it made you only give the first book one star. It's such a great book. I hope you decide to read it again one day without having the narrator spoil it for you :-)

Oooh, that would probably be really interesting to listen to on audio.
I hope you enjoy it!

Becky I loved the Odd thomas series on audio. The narrator really "gets" the humor of it.

So, I'm back to listening to the Harry Dresden books on audio again. I'm up to Summer Knight now and am enjoying this series more and more each book.
After my awful experience listening to A Clash of Kings on audio it's a nice change to be listening to something enjoyable again.

Has anyone else read the book Room Room by Emma Donoghue ? I'm currently listening to it on audio and it took me quite a while to get used to the narration being from a child's point of view but I don't mind it now. Some parts were a bit slow but it's definitely been a bit of a haunting book to listen to.

I've recently started listening to A Storm of Swords on audio and am liking the narrator much better than the one who did the previous book.
I'm starting to feel a little overwhelmed though as I feel that no matter how much I've been listening to it lately I don't seem to be getting very far into it.
I'm definitely enjoying it so far though.

What a whopper of a story!!

Chris Haught (haughtc) Best audio reading I listened to this year: The Martian.

Runner up: the Riyria series, beginning with Theft of Swords.

I haven't heard of either of those books before Chris but the Riyria series certainly sounds interesting.

Chris Haught (haughtc) I also second the suggestions of the Dresden Files and Odd Thomas. Both excellent on audio.

Oh, and if you like Odd Thomas, try Life Expectancy. Very good as well.

I loved Life Expectancy when I read it a few years ago. Intensity was really good too if you're a Koontz fan.

Chris Haught (haughtc) I did read Intensity, though not on audio. It was pretty good.
