I couldnt imagine the process involved with editing. How many times do you have to go though the book before you put it on the market?
I edit work until I stop seeing errors and I'm happy with it. That often takes time because after a while you stop "reading" your own work and you scan it, because you've seen it so many times your brain automatically fills it in and skips over. You speed read. One of the most egregious examples of this was the very first sentence of Screw the Galaxy had a typo for probably six months and I didn't notice it.
