Do you listen to music while you write? Do you listen to music before you write? do you try and make a new playlist for the feel of that story or do you just put it on shuffle?

Me too! Sometimes I use a Pandora station because the new lyrics give me something to think about

Emma (rpblcofletters) It depends...
Usually when I'm writing I have like music on quietly in the background, but sometimes I start humming along and I get distracted.

But sometimes my characters are doing something that directly relates to music (for example, once I wrote a new take on an opera's plot) so I put that on and use it as an idea.

Other times, I use music as inspiration. Once a piano concerto gave me an idea for a plot :)

If you don't mind me asking how does an instrumental inspire your writing

message 6: by Emma (new)

Emma (rpblcofletters) How does normal music inspire your writing? To me it's just blah.

The lyrics mostly. I am not trying to talk bad about instrumentals they are very good

message 8: by Emma (new)

Emma (rpblcofletters) Ok... hmm... (I mean, lyrics inspire me too)
what does this piece make you think of? (I know it's long - you don't have to listen to the whole thing.)

Emma (rpblcofletters) That sucks.

When you get a chance, watch/listen to it. It's a very inspirational piece :)

MiMi (planetearthturnsslowly) Shuffle it UP! I always listen to music while I write and if I'm not playing a specific album I hit the shuffle button

Laurel (herpilgrimsoul) Yes, most of the time. I have playlists for my characters, for my characters together, and for my books.

Marie -The Reading Otter (thereadingotter) yes, but it has to be instrumental.

Kayla | 3 comments I have music playing in the background when I write all the time. It helps me think of cool ideas. I love listening to Chasing the Sun by the Wanted, Macklemore- Can't Hold Us and Want U Back by Cher Lloyd. My fav. songs to listen to when I can't think of story ideas!
