Cheryl (cherylllr) It wasn't all Verne and Wells way back then. Consider the short story from 1881 The Clock That Went Backwards by Edward Paige Mitchell (available in The Time Traveler's Almanac). That one actually happens to read as if it were written yesterday, with just a hint of nostalgia in the 'voice.'

Btw, I created a starter record of the book here on goodreads. I'm tempted to buy a copy.

A Trip to Mars by Charles K. Landis

Paul (paullev) | 206 comments Yeah, I picked up a copy of John Jacob Astor's 1894 A Journey in Other Worlds: A Romance of the Future in a bookstore years ago, and was so happy to have it on my book shelf, that I even put a reference to it and made Astor a character in my time travel Chronica last year!

Cheryl (cherylllr) Ooh, I'll look into that, too.
