March to May; Spring Cleaning

Boy those TBR books keep piling up so... Let's see how many we can finish.

So Meterological Spring starts March 1st and goes until May 30th. This is a challenge to see how many books you can clean up.

1. Books from series that we want to catch up to or get back to. Is the series staying as good as initially, has it got better.

2. Books that have been recommended by friends or acquired but keep getting pushed back.

3. Books that have been on my TBR pile or shelf for way too long. Let's us know about how long you've had it and was it worth it.

4. Freebee books that we downloaded with every intention of reading but just didn't get to them. Let us know if you read a particularly good one. You can tell us if it was not so good also.

Of the above pick your challenges from 1, 2, 3 or from all 4 categories and then decide how many books you'll read altogether. If you pick the 1st category, series, decide how many series you will get to. Series is my bane as I seem to start more than I continue eventhough I want to continue.

1-3 books is Slow and Steady Gets the Job Done
4-8 Plucking Away at It
9-14 Getting Quite the Dent in the Pile
15-21 Too Many Books? See If I Can't
22-29 Will Do Attitude
30+ books and you are Obssessively Committed

I think that the counter shows up the day the challenge starts? It is on the main page top with a link. I could just change the counter date to today?

I'll update this with my number and series/books I'll try for.

@Holly. Great for you! I got 1 or 2 books read during to first two years with my daughter and they were both how to put your baby to sleep. :-) I mainly got through them but not completely. I just could NOT function (or read) with the sleep deprivation.

message 6: by Holly (new)

Holly | 16 comments You can wait and start it the first like you had planned. I try to read at work on my breaks and after she goes to sleep.

The counter is up and working
https://www.goodreads.com/challenges/...
So you can name and shelf and keep track. Officially the counter starts today.

message 18: by Holly (new)

Holly | 16 comments I put the small end of the bracket for my goal.

message 19: by MadameZelda (new)

MadameZelda I thought we keep track here. If not, I don't know how to do that shelf thing and don't understand it.
I'll pass and not join this challenge. Maybe next time if it's easier, other than shelf.
Thanks, though, for allowing me to participate.

message 20: by Beth (new)

Beth Revers | 17 comments All you do is create a new shelf for your books, and mark the ones you want to read for this on that shelf, then you go to the main page and put the shelf name and the number of books and then the widget will automatically keep track of which ones you mark read. It is really neat.

MadameZelda Beth wrote: "All you do is create a new shelf for your books, and mark the ones you want to read for this on that shelf, then you go to the main page and put the shelf name and the number of books and then the ..."

Well, Beth, took me a while to find the "Create a New Shelf." I went to Goodreads Help and the help is to add a widget to one's blog. I don't even have a blog! I've since found a different challenge which requires no shelves and widgets. (I do two challenges concurently and one just ended. I was hoping this one would take its place.)

I love reading and have to move on.

Good luck to you all! Bye.

I was just going to say you can keep track here by listing all the books.... that's what I will be doing. I use the Goodreads app a lot and the widget thing doest work in the app. so I have to do it the traditional way.

I tend to like the forums for the challenges but the long ones are nice to have a counter to keep track. Still it is not required to use the counter, just post here.

I'm so glad the Kiss of Midnight is the BOTM as I've had that on my shelf for years so plays right into this challenge.

I was looking through my series and found that although I some series where I have read a number of books and have a number of books left, most are either I'm at the last book (maybe 2) or I have only read the first one and have been meaning to try more.
FictFact.com were it is easy to track series.

I'm shooting for 10 of the "one book left to catch up" here are the 13
The Vampire With the Dragon Tattoo (Love at Stake, #14) by Kerrelyn Sparks Vampire Most Wanted (Argeneau, #20) by Lynsay Sands Love in the Afternoon (The Hathaways, #5) by Lisa Kleypas Night Broken (Mercy Thompson, #8) by Patricia Briggs White Trash Zombie Apocalypse (White Trash Zombie, #3) by Diana Rowland If He's Tempted (Wherlocke #5) by Hannah Howell Undead to the World (The Bloodhound Files, #6) by D.D. Barant Doe and the Wolf (Furry United Coalition, #5) by Eve Langlais Haunting Blackie (Cyborg Seduction, #8) by Laurann Dohner The Hellion and the Highlander (Devil of the Highlands, #3) by Lynsay Sands To Tame A Highland Warrior (Highlander #2) by Karen Marie Moning Beauty Awakened (Angels of the Dark, #2) by Gena Showalter The Price of Pleasure (Sutherland Brothers, #2) by Kresley Cole My Sister is a Werewolf (Young Brothers, #4) by Kathy Love The Darkest Craving (Lords of The Underworld, #10) by Gena Showalter Lover at Last (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #11) by J.R. Ward

So gathering dust (lot of series also), freebees and recommends I'll list a later.

message 31: by Adele, Moderator (new)

Adele (mooturtil) | 1749 comments Mod
www.fictfact.com
is a website similar to goodreads, except goodreads is more of a social thing.
fictfact is mainly a site to keep a track of books only.
im still working stuff out on the site.. but I dont think you can do shelves.
However one thing I have found on the site and love with a passion is the book release calendar.
it has every book release....well it looks like it does.

This would be great for my daughter who needs books to read and is too lazy to look into them to see if she likes them! Thanks!

message 33: by Alissa (new)

Alissa Nolan This is a great idea! I am working on all 3, but mainly 1, 2, and 3, with a goal of 15 - 21. I just finished "The Golem and the Jinni", which has been on my TBR list since it was first published last April. It was terrific! This week I will try to get through a couple of recommendations that have been sitting on the floor for a while.

message 34: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 16 comments I finished my 1st book from my freebies. Ever Since Eve by Pamela Browning/ 3 star read. This book had a great storyline but was way to short for my liking and rushed for a HEA the last two chapters. It's been on my shelf for about 6 months.

I love FictFact.com because it keeps track of my series and also tells me what I am missing. I've discovered quite a few novellas I didn't even know about.

With the help of Kindle for PC, I went through my ebooks to see which were freebees and that I have truly on want to read list. I ended up with a lot of erotica but in the end 113 books I really thought I would get to... 113! Well I'll try to pick 10 out of them. A bunch are shorts or novellas so maybe I could get to more. For now I think I'll try-

113 books, not bad. I refuse to count how many I have loaded on my kindle app, LOL! all I know is it's full on my tablet and I have 35 in the kindle que. I use bookbub.com, freebies and special prices (cheap). I've never used a counter before. I may try that. Like you Adele, I'm the only reader in my household. I have hundreds of books and a few hundred more on my iPhone and tablet Kindle apps.

Lisa Williamson (suteko) | 16 comments I wont say how many I have scattered about my computer, netbook and kindle aps but this does sound like a good idea. I take breaks from working on my own stories to read stuff. I recently discovered a series called the Void City Vampires on my Ebook reader. I didn't even know I had it. Interesting take for sure on the vampire tales. Anyone else read these?

113 was how many I actually seriously thought about reading, I have 3000 book in my Amazon library but most were sent to the cloud reader and never thought of again. I've actually read a couple of these when I am pointed to them by friends. Since they are free at the time, I just order them with no real thought on reading. I have under 100 actually paid for Amazon books in the library. Many of those I need to read too. Like the 99cent compilation books by Lisa Rene..The Vampire Wardens and Werewolf Society 5 Story Box Set, not 99cents anymore, and Mimi Jean Pampilof Vampire Assassin League Bundle: The Beginning and so many more... Freebee and low cost ebooks are my bane on Amazon. Hey still 99 cents Vampire Assassin League 1-4 The others are not.

The most recent of my freebee reads was Marked by Elisabeth Naughton and it is once again free if anyone has not snapped it up yet. Marked. I've read the first two and am really liking the series. I may read the third for the challenge also.

@Kissie You've totally upped my free and low priced books with that site, bookbub.com. I love it better than iqreader. After nearly 1/2 an hour of click and buy, I had to pull myself away, argh!!!

@Norm - which books are the same?

I would've started Dead Radiance if I knew yesterday. Soulkeeper and Dead Radiance are on a freebee BOTM on another Group I'm with. I did a eeny meeny and started Soulkeeper. First time they have a book I want to read and they have 2. I'll do Dead Radiance next week or the week after if you want to read along. They are both well rated. I didn't know that Soulkeeper was YA, as I didn't read the blurb, or I would have started Dead Radiance. Still it is reading really well 15% in.

OK I just saw that Loving a Fairy Godmother and the next 3 in the trilogy are $2.99 a piece! They are only 80+ pages a piece! Does anyone else see that as a little high? Well if anyone is interested Magic After Dark at Amazon has all 3 stories (novellas) plus some other authors like Danika Dark, S.M. Reine, etc... and it is only 99 cents.

The Soulkeepers started leaning a lot on the bible and the stories. I don't get the preachy feeling yet but it is getting a little much into bible history, though she does quote books that are not standard. More than 1/2 way through so I let you know.

Finished Kiss of Midnight and started The Laughing Corpse which have both been on my TBR for over 4 years, have both been multiple times recommended, and one is a series I've already started, now two I guess since I finished reading it. So they fill many of the clean up categories.
