Ah! Hello Aesop. The ondt and the gracehoper was the very first part of the wake I cast eyes upon years ago...a substitute teacher had talked Joyce up all day, and especially the wake, and when I opened the library copy later that afternoon, what to my wondering eyes should appear?

Charming, it is. And an unexpectedly touching affirmation of the risks of choosing to live the wayward life of the artist. Shaun may have his riches and women and an audience before the people, but Shem comes closer to knowing "abought the Great Sommboddy within the Omniboss"......and could there ever be a more concise and beautiful way for an insect to describe the approach of winter than "when Chrysalmas was on the bare branches"?
More art ::"This month marks the 75th anniversary of the publication of Joyce’s final novel and in celebration Lilliput Press will be publishing ‘The Ondt & the Gracehoper by James Joyce’. Thomas McNally’s first book of illustrations this work will feature Joyce’s retelling of Aesop’s classic fable ‘The Ant and the Grasshopper as well as McNally’s imaginings of the tale."
