I've just read the first three chapters, and am kind of falling asleep. Does this just have a slow beginning, and then gets much better as things kick into gear?

It's not bad, but there are two things that bug me: (1) Sounds like Reichs is trying a little too hard to make the teen characters talk trendy and modern, and (2) I wish I wasn't told so much of the background. *SPOILER* Like explaining the librarian was trying to cover up the murder. We read about the main characters putting pieces of the puzzle together, but I wish I didn't already know how the puzzle looks completed!

The foursome just gained their powers, so things are getting interesting. I just read the debutante dance party chapter - that was pretty funny.
Erica wrote: "Did you finish it? I agree with you about the teens speaking hip and cool."Just finished it yesterday! The character development was great (Hi was a riot), and the murder mystery aspect was clever. I was hoping for more romance, but that's just me. It was worth the read
Glad you liked it. I think the series gets much better as you go through them. Definitely worth reading number 2.

So if I especially hate slow beginnings is this series really worth reading? I love a lot of books similar to it but I feel like the writing of this book would bug me.
