I truly enjoyed this book and read the next book by Abraham Verghese. The setting and characters in "Cutting for Stone" were so interesting and unique. I have recommended it to others for reading often.

we read it as a book club read - it was a long one but well worth the read
GREAT book. Read it a few years ago when it first came out and thought it insightful culturally. Loved it and want to reread it some time.
I read this book several years ago at the recommendation of someone who had also been through the socio-political turmoil in Ethiopia described in the book. Although a fictional work, and a very well written one, the historical background is told in compelling clarity. I think the book has great value for this merit alone. The storytelling carried me through the streets and buildings of Addis Abeba on the fascinating journey. Loved it. Time to buy an audio version of it for a re-read.
