Scarlett was definitely a Scorpio! I ALWAYS thought Scarlett was a Scorpio! Rhett -- Well, he is definitely a fire sign. Maybe Aries or Leo? He is a take charge, dominant kind of person, seems to enjoy attention. He is smart and knows how to manipulate things to his advantage. He will always be a leader, never a follower.
Melanie -- hmmm, maybe Cancer? She is sensitive and compassionate, a bit of a home dweller, fiercely loyal and protective of family. She knows life for what it is, but does not necessarily need to discuss bad things...

All my estimations here came from the movie rather than from the Novel. I haven't completed reading the Novel. I've read parts of it and I loved them and will very soon read it all.Scarlett is a very determined person but she lacks the insight. She has the will to survive even in the toughest circumstances and she looks at weak people condescendingly. Scarlett is definitely an Aries, and of course she has Scorpio shades in her, and I believe it is her Ascendant rather than her Sun Sign. Scorpio and Aries are related to each other in 6-8 pattern, which makes them illusion signs (each has certain qualities that we can find in the other, but they have developed for different reasons). Which is why I believe most people wrongly estimate her as a Scorpio. If not Aries, the only other chance is she has to be Gemini with Moon Aries and Asc Scorpio, but my vote goes to Aries. She gives too much importance to her determination than intellectual childish curiosity to be a Gemini.
Rhett is surely a fire signer. Definitely not Aries because of his tendency to give time to Scarlett to let her realize how much he really loves her, rather than losing his patience and shouting at her and beat her. His playful nature brings Leo and Sagittarius into mind. Out of the two I believe he's a Sagittarius because of the way he left her, in the end, packing his bags and moving away, rather than making her leave the house saying it is his house and people only who love him have the blessing to stay in that house. A Sagittarius.
Ashley. Hmmm. Who is this guy? A Pisces? His father-like or elder brother-like patience with Scarlett clearly proves he's not a Pisces. Pisces get fidgety inwardly and every once in a while confused about whether to choose Melanie or Scarlett, and will show clear signs of running away from Scarlett and fear her domineering presence at least once, especially because of her lack of insight. No, he's not a Pisces. He's an Earth sign. Can be a Virgo or a Taurus. I guess Taurus. (my guess can be wrong here).
Melanie, well I believe she's a Virgo. Virgo with Moon Pisces, lets say. She's definitely struggling with herself and she's kind to everybody but herself. And a Cancer? No way. Yes, Cancers are sensitive, fiercely loyal and protective of their family, but Cancer is not so guileless to not understand Scarlett's intentions for her husband and still treat her with compassion. Cancers are extremely possessive and have the crab like skill of diverting the events and eventually maneuver them to make the events happen the way she wanted. That's not how Melanie is. She's guileless and she's almost like, "Why am I on this Earth? Why the human existence?" Cancers are born to fight and by hook or crook they try to win what they want. Very powerful competitors without letting you know and are tad bit more selfish than how we see Melanie. With the world weary Pisces Moon, she's the unsuspecting Virgo.
Melaine was more a Pisces though, she was very "out of this world" as was Ashley - they were probably both Piscean,I always felt that Scarlett was a Taurus with an Aries moon. She is so stubborn and unbending, she has an iron will and that is a Taurean trait and the Aries moon gives her the fire, the sheer drive to put that rock solid determination into action. I never thought Scarlett was a Scorpio because that is an intensely sexual sign and Scarlett is not sexual - she is sexy and that is not the same thing - a Scorpio woman would never give up sex as Scarlett did. I actually think Rhett is also a Taurean - they are strong rooted men, like oak trees! - they are also very passionate and loyal - the only reason Rhett strayed was because Scarlett kicked him out of bed, because Taurus men also have a large sexual appetite. So, when they two of them met it was two inmoveable objects each with their own irresistable force which was why it was so thrilling! They were not opposite they were exactly alike which is why they fell in love in the first place. Just my thoughts!

In the movie I would say she is an Aries with Scorpio moon with leo Rising in the book I would say she is Scorpio with Aries Moon and Pisces rising.

Yes, it's a possibility, both Ashley and Melanie may be Pisces. But Scarlett Taurus? Despite all her fiery temper? Her strong determination but apparent lack of patience in reacting to things. Aries Moon can explain that, but with her fiery temper raising every now and then, her Sun being Aries is a lot more probable than Taurus. And I disagree with Rhett being Taurus too. Rhett is more a wandering hero rather than a settled down person. It was for Scarlett that he decided to settle down, but once he understood that she's hopeless, he goes back to his wandering style again. There is more chance of him being a Sagittarius.

Well, the moon rules the emotions and Scarlett is definately an Aries moon - hence the fiery temper, impatience and her selfishness, Aries in the infant of the zodiac - the "me first" sign. But that strength of character, her indomitable will, that steely sense of purpose and determination and her deep tie with her home are those of a rooted earth sign - not a fire sign. The taurus and aries combination is one of the most powerful in the zodiac. Also her stubborness in clinging onto the dream that was Ashley even though she knew he was never going to leave Melaine is Taurean.Maybe Rhett has a fire sign moon - Leo perhaps.

I've read somewhere, maybe some astrology book, that Scarlett was an Aries, And Rhett a Scorpio. Now truthfully,I'm not sure how they came up with that, probably their own deductions, but I've always kind of taken it to heart and believed it. Ashley I would think either Pisces or Cancer, Melanie Virgo.Mammy Scorpio, she was nobody's fool!

This thread is the most interesting that I have come across on here!thank u all for sharing the articles. I have to disagree with some of u however. Rhett butler was a rogue and a man's man who was ambitious regarding money and wealth. Devil may care how he got it or who he chose to spend it with. From Belle Watling (Madame mind u) to unabashed Scarlett..Rhett is a Capricorn through and through. He has money when no one else does.and will always have an out. Wheather riding out of a battle zone with a donkey horse or mule...or w talking out on the woman Scarlett..who he fell in love with when she was just a young lady. Scarlett is stubborn and determined to bend the world her way by any means. She uses her natural gifts and charms to prevail over others who fancy themselves better than her. She doesn't really care what people think as she accomplishes her goals. Outwardly she looks like a lady..inwardly she is as much off a rogue as Rhett. That's what he loves about her. Her thoughts will only belong to her and atone Point Rhett even squeezes her face/head wanting to understand r stand what goes on in there. Scarlett is a Taurus with a video moon. Which explains her need for attention and devil may care attitude in how it's done (Virgo moon).she is a survivor who only shows her vulnerability in her sleep!..I.e. Her bad dreams where Rhett would rush to her side. Capricorn and Taurus are ideal in relationships..if the Taurus woman will allow him to lead.
Ashley we all know is a fickle flip of the tail Pisces. He is a dreamer and appeals to Scarlett dreamy side of Taurus. Yet a woman like that would have never worked for him. He would've had to come off his cloud and be one person..Ashley is clearly two when he kisses Scarlett yet clings to the life he will have with Melanie- safe, approved and predictable. Like Twin Oakes and that lifestyle. He is, great with giving advice but really is so vulnerable inside...Scarlett has to save him at points.
Melanie is soon a cancer..however she is not as weak as others state here! She has a quiet resolve but is a leader in her own right. First of ..she gets her man..over pretty small waist Scarlett. Secondly she befriends her competition so she can watch Scarlett. If "Melly..speaks people obey..From the senior ladies to Captain Butler. She even gets her wedding ring back when everyone else's gets sent off to.help the soldiers. Lastly she bears her man's only child against what doctors say . Leaving everyone thinking of her the devoted wife mother and best friend. Cancer all the way

A fun but ultimately pointless thread. Personalities are molded by environment and upbringing, not the time of year you're born. Scarlett is 100% Leo, btw.

Scarlett = Aries sun, Libra rising and Cancer moon. Aries because she's impatient, quick-tempered and ruthless, but not evil or vengeful. Plus she's able to play a role in a man's world and can see through all that nonsense. She's actually a bit of a man's woman and doesn't realise how important other women are (her mum is idealised, but I think that may be more of a Catholic thing rather then astrology!). The bit where she goes "Melanie, Melanie, I hate you! I hate you!" made my friends laugh a lot because they've heard me say it about people I don't hate, but am cross with. Libra rising because she's vain and her good looks are very important, plus she can come across as charming, sociable and lady like, but it's not real if you know what to look like. Cancer moon because of her love of her mother and Tara, her home (and also a wee bit of her Irish heritage). In fact, they're one and the same in many ways. I don't see any air on her chart as she seems totally without intellectual curiosity - she's never read a book! But on the other hand, she's brilliant at sums. I do think she's scheming, but for good reasons, i.e., herself or loved ones. I don't think she's scheming for the hell of it, which could be more of a Scorp thing. The time she decided to marry Charles Hamilton was like an instant kickback to India Wilkes. And she soon found out she'd cut off her nose to spite her face.Rhett = Leo sun, Scorpio rising and Aquarius moon. Leo because he commands attention, is dignified, fashionable and loves the good things in life. And he thinks he's always bloody right! Scorpio because he has that dark side. He almost finds the fall of Atlanta exciting. He believes that more money can be made from the destruction of a society, whereas Scarlett is about doing well in business through its renewal. Rhett also funds a brothel and isn't judgemental about women who have little choice but to enter such a profession. Aquarius moon also informs that luck of judgement, also because there's a certain detachment about Rhett. He's a bit of a rebel. Remember when he got sick of everyone in Atlanta approving of him when he was a blockade runner and decided to blow it? And when he decides to join the Confederate Army at the last minute, MM says he's a man who truly knows himself, yet still can surprise himself.
Margaret Mitchell who wrote the book was related to the infamous Doc Holliday of the gunfight at the OK Corral. She said in an interview that one of the characters was based on Holliday. It could have been either Ashley or Rhett. I think it was Rhett.
Ashley can't be a Pisces. In chapter 53 we are told his last birthday party (in 1861) was the barbecue at Twelve Oaks, which happens just after the firing on Fort Sumter which started the war. Historically, that battle was mid-April. Ashley is probably an Aries, strange as that sounds.

Scarlett, a Scorpio?
Scorpios tend to be mysterious and strong willed. They are able to easily grab attention as they have what it takes to accomplish all the goals that they set. Scorpios tend to have a charm to them that others are unable to ignore. Those born into this sign tend to be determined, fearless, poised, loyal, ambitious and intuitive. There are some negative characteristics that relate directly to Scorpios. These would include: jealousy, secretive, resentful and controlling.
What about Rhett and Melanie?
