I was given this book as a gift and am trying to find out if it's a tragic story or if it ends on a happy note but I am afraid of spoilers haha. Could anyone tell me?

Adam Bede is one of the best books I've ever read. George Eliot's insight into the human condition is at its ripest in this novel. The novel starts out very slowly and it takes awhile to get going. By the halfway point you will be enthralled and unable to put it down. There were moments where I was yelling at characters out-loud because I was so involved in the story.
I won't give you any spoilers - and be careful not to read any because the surprises and twists and turns of this book are part of its charm. What I will say is that this is a great novel. It has the highest kind of literary merit and Eliot's prose and ability to create true-to-life characters makes this novel capable of reaching people at an intellectual, emotional and spiritual level. Like life itself, there are tragedies and moments of happiness. You could not know the joys of happiness without knowing the pain of the tragedy.
Don't worry about how it ends, just surrender to the experience.
