The Lightning Thief is known internationally, and is loved by millions of people. The basic plot is that Percy Jackson discovers that he is a demigod, a son or daughter that is half god and half human. After he turns a certain age, he begins to be attacked by monsters, and is eventually invited to Camp Half-blood by his friend, who just so happens to be a centaur that guarded him. Onto the main plot, the three god kings (Poseidon, Zeus, and Hades) have discovered that someone has stolen one of their greatest weapons, Zeus' Lightning Bolt. To prevent mass destruction between the three Gods, Percy and his 2 companions, Annabeth and Grover, attempt to seek the lightning bolt. Little do they know, the shield Percy wields that was received from his friend, Luke (the actual criminal), had the lightning bolt inside it. Framed by his so-called friend, he attempts to give the lightning bolt back to the gods, and in the process fights Luke. Percy wins the battle, and returns the bolt to Zeus, earning himself respect among the gods as well as his fellow campers back in Camp Half-blood.Overall, although this book is considered "mainstream" for a fiction book, it was very enjoyable, and me haven't read it yet made it even more enjoyable. Riordan's description of the battles that occur inside the book are vivid, and the book itself is definitely worth reading if you are interested in a plot filled with Greek Mythical references mixed with modern-day New York.
