For this month, I chose to read "Marley & Me" by John Grogan. The setting of this book is mostly in Boca Raton, Florida until the end of the book when the Grogans move to Allenstown, Pennsylvania. John (author and main character) comments on this after his neighbor asks for any deer that they might run over by saying, "No doubt about it, we weren't in Boca anymore," (Page 218). The main characters in this book are John Grogan, his wife Jenny Grogan, their dog Marley, and their children Patrick, Colleen, and Conor. I can relate to them as they are mostly just a normal family with a really entertaining dog. I like Grogan's writing style as his writing has lots of color to it, and it accurately potrays the antics of his dog without withholding anything.
You make this book sound like one of those classic stories, like a family story. I've never read this book before but I did see the movie, so maybe I'll like the book.
I cant think of any differences between the book and the movie off the top of my head. This is probably because Grogan wanted the both to tell Marley's life accurately but I do recommend reading the book to anyone who hasn't.
I have not read the book, but the movie was exceptional and almost made me cry at the end. It raises questions about how the author came up with these ideas. Maybe he had a dog of his own and this book is based off of real experiences. Is this book part of a series? I want to read this book because it's been a long time since I saw the movie and forgot most of it.
