Yes! This author is quite good ^^.

Yep she's one of my favorites! I've read almost all of her stuff. I even accidentally read the #2 to this book (Perfect) before I read this one but it was different characters so it wasn't really ruined

I might join you guys for this if i can keep up with my buddy reads, I don't have one planned for the 15th yet and I haven't read anything by this author before ☺

I only read Crank from her, but I really liked it :) .

Crank is SO good, so is Glass and Fallout (the next two books in that series)

About Fallout: all the characters end up bad because of the bad gene Christina left them with or there is still hope left? I must admit that even if I loved the realism in Crank, it did left me kinda sad.

I can't really remember but I think it's more about Christina's kids as kids and how much of a struggle their life was with no mom..

Yes Crank is super sad, but I read it at a time where I really NEEDED it, it opened my eyes and made certain things I could never understand make sense.

First thoughts about the characters (through 7%):

Conner (view spoiler)[ I feel like Conner is one of those kids that seems like he has everything he could ever want but is really a mess inside. (hide spoiler)]

Tony (view spoiler)[ Boy this kid is messed up.. A hardcore druggy and possibly maybe gay? Based on the comment he made about dudes touching Conner's "hot bod" (hide spoiler)]

Vanessa (view spoiler)[ A girl stuck in her own head and oh gosh the images when reading about her cutting were really intense and gory and sad (hide spoiler)]

I always get soooo invested in every character Ellen Hopkins writes.. It's early and I'm emotionally invested

So, I'm 6% in and right now I'm a little confused because It's hard to realize what poem belongs to what person. I don't think Tony's gay. I think that poem was Vanessa's.
It's annoying because the poems don't have a certain pattern to them so you can see who's poem is it, at least, I don't see the pattern right now, but I'm getting to that.
Crank was easier to read because we had only one character.

I wanna take this book easy and read 10% each day. Feel free to go at your own pace, I'll be a little slower, but I will discuss this with you. :)

I had that same problem! Now I feel like I know the characters a little better so I can tell who's who.

Sorry, I'm a little depressed right now so I've been giving this one a shove in favor of some more cheerful books. I'm 15% in and (view spoiler)[finally understood why at first I thought Vanessa was the drug addict, because she mentioned a boyfriend. It seems that it was Tony's poem and he's gay, lol. Wasn't expecting that. I'm also curious why he finds Vanessa pretty, if he likes guys and all... maybe he doesn't, but just never got to actually fall for a girl. (hide spoiler)]

Does this have a happy ending, or close to one? If yes I'm going to speed it up to get to the happy parts :) .

I don't want to discourage you from continuing because things really do come together well for some of the characters..

But as for a happy ending, unfortunately this book does not have one :(

I kinda hated this, it was an interesting story, but I still hated it. I hate how this author tortures her characters. I thought I liked it, but now I'm sure I won't read another book from her for a very, very long time.... if ever.

What were your feeling about the ending Rachael? I know I'm like a month late in discussing this, but I really disliked the way those poor souls kept on suffering and suffering. :(

The ending wasn't that bad, but the journey was a painful one.

I agree with you that the author really tortures her characters but I think that makes for good entertainment! It's easier to read knowing it's not a true story.. It wasn't my favorite one by her or even top 5 but it was ok.

I just really like her style, I will continue to read her books. Sorry you didn't like it though!

No one seems to be around, but I'm planning to join you with this. If I can finish my paperbacks for read-a-thon today, I'll start today. Else, tomorrow, but not later than that. I've been dying to read this one.

okay. I just got off work so I have not been able to start yet.

Its just boring to me. I'm hoping because I am not that far in it will get better.
