Fallen Gables is a fantasy story that hasn't hit its fantasy aspects quite yet. It starts out at a manor house called Fallen Gables, and a lot of the setting is currently taking its tone from the English countryside in the 1910s - but again, it's actually a fantasy setting, so participants should feel free to toss new things and ideas into the mix. That story honestly hasn't progressed very far - mostly just to the stage of getting the first set of characters introduced, with just some hints of plot in the form of someone's arrival - although who it is who's arriving has not yet been determined. Overall though it would be a good one to jump into, as it's still quite early and could still go any direction.
Jacob's Brood has a darker feel to it. It's paranormal/horror, with some slight restrictions, which I could get into if you're interested in joining. The basic premise is that all of the player characters live in the same big, run-down apartment complex in a big city, and they all have a secret to keep. Here's the description from the Jacob's Brood character creator:
"The story begins in a world that is similar to our own - similar, but not quite the same. The nights are a little bit longer, the shadows are a bit deeper, and fairy tales are still grim reminders that dangerous creatures walk the earth in deceptive forms. But of course nobody actually believes in those stories…do they?
Perhaps your character is oblivious to all of this, and has just been going along living life as if everything was perfectly normal. Or perhaps for you, the strange and the terrifying are perfectly normal. Here’s what we know for certain:
You live at 181 Pullman Avenue, an apartment building lost in the vastness of a big city. You don’t know your neighbors very well. The Pullman Avenue Apartments are a bit run down, but at least the people there understand the need for privacy. And that’s a good thing - because you have a secret."
Really though, the best way to figure the stories out is to read what's already been written, and see what you make of it. : )
