I watched the first episode of Sci-Fi's Sanctuary last night on the computer. It was REALLY good! It's got Amanda Tapping and other people I don't know but I'm a big fan of Tapping from Star Gate... yup I'm an offical nerd!

It's kind of a cross between X Files and a Noah's Ark where they find these strange mutated people/creatures and bring them into The Sanctuary.

Has anyone else seen this show? I'd never heard of it until I ran across it on Netflix by complete accident.

I'm excited to watch the next episodes - I haven't watched any TV (beyond my kid's shows with them) for about 6 months so it's nice to find a show that will grab my interest.

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 44 comments I loved the concept of the show, but it seemed to flounder a bit. I think the writers needed to get more focused

That's too bad... I was hoping for another long series from Sci-Fi. Maybe the next season will get better. TV Series are a lot like book series sometimes - the 1st season isn't the best but others get better & better.

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 44 comments That's what I am hoping!

Susan (Suz) (sharney) Yeah I watched it and really liked it, but of course i'm a huge Sci-Fi(or SyFy as it's now called which I think is lame but that's a whole nother subjetct) fan and an Amanda Tapping fan! I'm looking forward to the new season!!

I finished the 1st season earlier this week. I think it has some great potential I'm excited for the next season as well

message 7: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kathry) I'm gonna check this out soon. I'm trying to catch up on so many shows and too often it becomes a choice of tv or books for fun :)

The choice is usually books for me, without a doubt. BUT I haven't chosen reading too much this week. I watched Sanctuary & True Blood Season 1 while doing some work stuff. Now I'm trying to get caught up on Season 2 of True Blood so I can join in the discussions without worrying about spoilers.

message 9: by Kathryn (last edited Jul 16, 2009 10:37PM) (new)

Kathryn (kathry) Yay! Can't wait to hear what you think of True Blood! Did you enjoy the first season? There's a pretty active group for the books/show here on Goodreads. Lots of guessing of what will happen next.

I finished Being Human not too long ago and am trying to get into Torchwood. But I'm also trying to finish some older vampire tv show called Kindred The Embraced. REALLY bad acting but it's fun. And of course there's others. I almost always choose books over tv but not lately.

Oooo i love Kindred the Embraced i just wished that show went longer then 8 episodes :( but it was good while it lasted...

I do too! Talk about a show with potential!

message 12: by ♦Jennifer♦ (new)

♦Jennifer♦ (thejenneral) Ohh, I absolutely love Sanctuary! Sci-fi made this big deal about it being one of the first shows ever to use the green screen for most of their backdrops when it first came out. And the second season started last Friday, so I'm super excited to see what happens to Ashley. And speaking of Amanda Tapping, did anyone see the new Stargate universe? I gotta say, I'm not really loving it so far...

message 13: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) So what did you think about the season 2 opening Jennifer?? I was fairly underwhelmed :( And I'm not really caring for Stargate Universe either..... I think they are reaching.....

message 14: by ♦Jennifer♦ (new)

♦Jennifer♦ (thejenneral) Yeah, the new Stargate was pretty much crap. I mean I was a huge fan of both sg1 and Atlantis, and when I heard about SGU I was excited. That's until I saw it. They stripped almost everything I loved about the series away, and basically just left something that is too close to Battlestar Galactica for my liking.

As for Sanctuary I wasn't too disappointed. I think that for a season premiere it wasn't anything amazing, but I hoping that it'll get better. Like their building up to the good stuff.

message 15: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) I couldn't have said it better myself about both Jennifer!! I was also a huge fan of SG1 and Atlantis and I think they should have left well enough alone....

Shanon (boban) | 1166 comments Mod
I'm not surprised SGU isn't all that great. IMO SG1 was wonderful and Atlantis is really good - but they're going a little overboard by making new Star Gate series.

I haven't watched the new Santuary yet. I don't have Sci-Fi so I wait until the season is done and get my hands on the DVDs. It means a longer wait between seasons but a much shorter wait between episodes.

Yep, I know exactly what you mean. lol, I miss hearing Dr. Rodney Mckay talk about how much smarter he is than everybody else. And I loved me some Daniel Jackson, and now their gone... >_<

message 18: by Book Huntress (new)

Book Huntress (bookhuntress) | 12 comments Watched Sanctuary season premier, and think they could have found their groove - first season was a little rocky - showed obvious potential, and they have said they were going to up the "action" this season, we'll see how it goes...

as for SGU, ehh we'll have to see but I agree I keep thinking that if Rodney or Sam were there they coujldn have fixed things alreasdy ha ha

Paula (pauldajo) I don't have cable or satellite, so I'm unable to watch Santuary or SGU. I have a friend at work who has given me an overview of the shows. I hope that Fox or some other network station will play the series a year behind like Fox did with the original Stargate series. I guess there is always DVDs, but I'd rather not spend the money.

Netflix is my hero in that department! They even have Santuary ready to download to watch without waiting for DVDs to be mailed.

message 21: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) Shanon, I'm a member of Netflix, so I'll order or download Santuary. I only have the one movie a month package. It takes me a month or so to watch a movies I've ordered.

Brenda (bmeans) | 3 comments I love Sanctuary and Amanda but really miss the original Star Gate series.

Lea-Ellen (lea-ellen_night_owl_in_il) | 4 comments Hi Shanon - Yes, I loved Stargate: SG1 and I like Amanda Tapping, so I've watched most of the episodes of Sanctuary (I'll try to catch the others on reruns).

That's a good analogy of the show (a cross between the X-Files & Noah's Ark).

Hi Jennifer -
You're right at Stargate Universe being too close to seeming like Battlestar Galactica. Why, oh why can't they make decent spin-offs? (Stargate Atlantis was pretty good.)

Lea-Ellen (lea-ellen_night_owl_in_il) | 4 comments I cann't understand how prodocers can call 8 epidsodes of any TV series a "Season". Didn't they all used to be like 24 episodes? There's way too much wait time between supposed `new' seasons. How can people even remember what was going on in the last season? Where's the variety and creativity and writing? (I don't mean Sanctuary & the Stargates aren't "creative" in thinking - I mean in MORE volume/quantity-wise.)
