The Riverbed
"Wow!" Whisperkit mewed, her eyes wide. "It's so... so big!" She bounced a little bit next to Foxkit. "Where does it come from?"
Growing a little impatient, and more and more eager, Whisperkit ran closer to the water, "Last one to the water's edge has fish for brains!"
"This is awesome!" Whisperkit mewed. Carefully she touched the very edge of the water with the tip of her paw before jumping backwards, "Cold!!"
Foxkit frowned and touched the river. His paw swooped and he was tumbles forward. "Woah!" He said. Then he raced back from the edge. "This is dangerous..."
Whisperkit's fur fluffed out, "Careful! It looks fast!" She ran over to him and sat next to him. "Let's not get too close again."
"Didn't Willowleaf say that this was flooded? What do you think that means?" Whisperkit tilted her head and watched the river flow by. "Is it extra big right now?"
Whisperkit laughed then, "I can't believe we made it out of camp! I wonder if they have noticed yet." Her tail flicked happily and she gave the air a nice long sniff.
Whisperkit's eyes widened, but she regained her composure, "It's okay Foxkit, I'm sure they'll notice soon. In fact, I bet they're already looking for us!" She flicked his ear with her tail, "We're going to get such a scolding." She gasped and her fur puffed out, "What if they don't make us apprentices!?"
"Hey wait for me!" Whisperkit yowled and raced after him. As she ran after him her foot slipped between some roots and tripped her, "Oof!" She yelped and tried to pull her leg out. "Foxkit! It's stuck!" She yowled loudly, "What if I'm stuck here forever!"
Foxkit ran back and found Whisperkit. "Oh no!" He said and looked at her paw. "I'll try to get it out." He moved closer and pawed at the root.
Foxkit then bit the root and pulled. He flinched and closed his eyes. His teeth started to bleed! Then the root came loose and he fell backward. He stood up and pushed Whisperkit onward. "Mommy's coming!" He yelled. "Hurry!" His mouth dripped with blood and he looked down at Whisperkit's bleeding leg.
Whisperkit limped forward a bit, "It hurts!" She repeated and took a few shaky paws forward.
Roseclaw appeared moments later and saw her kits, smelling blood. Her fur fluffed out and she hovered over them, curling both close to her. She looked at Whisperkit's leg and licked it carefully. "Are you hurt too?" She looked at Foxkit's bleeding mouth.

Foxkit let his jaw drop and nodded. "Uh huh." He said. Then he moved closer to his mother. "I'm thorry mommy." He said.
Roseclaw sniffed Foxkit's muzzle and licked his cheek. "Let's get you both to camp. Can you walk Foxkit? It'll be quicker if I carry Whisperkit." She stood back up and gently picked up her daughter by the scruff. Whisperkit dangled there limply, more scared of their punishment then their injuries.
"That's for Stormstar to decide." Roseclaw mewed, though it was hard for her to speak carrying Whisperkit. "Come on," She scooted him in front of her in the direction of the camp. She kept pace behind him, making sure he didn't get hurt on the way back.
Foxkit shrugged. He saw other cats, Riverclan cats, on the other side of the river. He walked up to the river and peered down at it. "Fish!" He exclaimed.
Foxkit lowered him down and wiped a paw through the calmer water. "It's smaller than before." He said. "It used to be huge!"
Foxkit wast listening he stepped closer. Then, a paw slipped from the edge of the river and he was plunged into the cold water. "Darkkit! Help!" He gurgled.
Shadowfrost swam through the quick water, scanning the river for the young kit. What were these kits doing? He thought panicked, the river was still flooded and dangerous! He spotted the bundle of fur and swam for it.
Shadowfrost kicked as hard as he could and finally caught up to the kit. "I've got you! Hold on." He growled as he grabbed hold of the kit with his teeth. Getting to the kit was easy, the current helped. Getting out of the river with both of them uninjured would be hard.
Foxkit grasped onto the cat and held onto his fur. He whimpered as the waves splashed him. "Don't let me go." He said.
"I won't!" Shadowfrost promised furiously. He'd save this kit even if it killed him. He fought against the water, trying to keep his head above the water, but more importantly to keep the kit's head above the surface.
Foxkit gripped onto the cats fur and climbed. He hoisted himself up above the cold water. He whimpered and closed his eyes.
Shadowfrost was extremely cross with Silverwood for jumping into the river as well. It was dangerous, and she was expecting kits! It would have been better if she had fetched more cats. Still he would have to try just as hard to make sure she survived this as well. He took a breath and ended up swallowing some of the water. He choked but kept kicking his legs.
Shadowfrost bumped into a large branch and went under the water for a moment. He kicked back to the surface and latched onto it. "Hold on." He grunted and looked around for Silverwood.
Shadowfrost pushed the branch towards the edge of the river, hoping to catch a current that would allow them to safely climb out of the water. He could feel the adrenaline pumping through him as he kicked his legs. After trying several times to get to the edge, he eventually met with success as he pushed the branch into the mud at the edge of the river. Panting he picked Foxkit up with his teeth and placed the young kit on a rock well out of reach of the water. He looked down at the young cat, nose to nose and sternly mewed, "Are you okay?"

"This can't be," she murmured. She carefully circled around Sunningrocks, trying not to get her feet wet. The water was shallow in this area, but still fast in certain areas. The river itself had become a swift flowing current that spelled doom for any cat who happened to get caught in it.
