Thanks for setting up this thread, Aoife! Hi Rachel- glad to see you here as well. :)
Any other romance writers out there?I guess I'll just start off with something that happened the other day.
Does anybody else ever have a great idea pop into their head as they're falling asleep only to have forgotten it the next day? I keep a notebook by the bed just for this, but I must have been to exhausted to turn over and grab it and a pen to write it down. : (
Thinking about picking up a cheap voice recorder in the hopes I want be too lazy even to press the Record button...

Nah, not me. I find my ideas tend to come during the day, during awake time.
They know better than to disturb my sleep. No one does that. ;)
My best ideas come when I'm in the middle of doing something else like the dishes, showering, talking to someone, etc then the solution to a problem, a new character, JUST what the H should say to the h pop into my head. I put a lot of notes on my iPhone now but I used to carry a notebook around with me.

The shower idea thing happens to me as well. I kind of wish the ideas would just wait until I'm at least dried off...
Ariel wrote: "I write Science Fiction Romance and Historical."I do enjoy a good historical now and again.

Thank you, Rachel. Very well. I'm about 43,000 words in so far, so I'm happy.
How's your writing going?
Ariel wrote: "Did anyone enter the Amazon Breakthrough Novel contest?"No. I haven't taken on any extra work aside from my current WIP. How about you, Ariel?

Just chuggin along like the little engine that could. I hit 57k not too long ago, yay! Thanks for asking, BTW.
Ariel wrote: "Did anyone enter the Amazon Breakthrough Novel contest?"Heard of it, but haven't looked into it.

Best wishes! Keep us up to speed. :)
Yes, I did and really sweated the pitch since that's the first round. I can write a novel but struggle with writing 300 words ABOUT the novel. :) I think I might just be procrastinating on my WIP . . .

Thanks for starting this discussion. I love seeing the interest and everyone's post.I'm a published romance author. I write everything imaginable and so far, 100% from my recurring dreams. My subgenre are Native American Historical mild erotica, Paranormal/Vampire/Altered History erotica, Teen/YA and adult (behind the door)Paranormal romance, to Contemporary adult sweetheart romance to Western Historical. No, I don't have normal dreams. LOL It is something I've had my entire life and I've always enjoyed telling stories of those dreams.
I think if you feel strong about something write about it, let the story take life and go with it. You never know you might have the next big hit, but either way you'll be proud of the fact that you wrote it which is something a lot of people can't say they've done. ;)

Good luck Ariel on your submission. It is never easy to let the reins go on something so dear to us. Good For you!
I submitted my first erotica this last week to a publisher. I can relate. :)
The synopsis is almost as bad as the brief summary most want or the back cover blub. LOL I mean, I wrote the novel I know it by heart, but for the life of me I can't put the descriptive into words that would summarize a novel into 300 words or less. Heck, writing the novel is the easy part! LOL
I love it though!
I also entered the Amazon contest, I entered my Teen/YA Paranormal Romance that's self-published.
Now for the wait. Good luck to you as well to all who also entered! :)
Hey All! I write steamy new adult romance. My first book will be published in June. My second one is in the edit stage before I send it off for the professional edit rounds at the end of April. My ideas come from all over. But stories have always played in my head.
Here's my question for you - Are you a plotter, pantster or both? Share!
Violet wrote: "Here's my question for you - Are you a plotter, pantster or both? Share! ..."Hi Violet!
I outline as I write, usually a couple chapters ahead. How about you?
I'm very much like you Rachel. I start off with an outline and change it as my characters develop and move me in different directions.
Rachel ~ SnapDragoness wrote: "Which romance subtype(s) does everybody write?"I'm paranormal romance (some have referred to is as Vampire romance but I think the former is correct.)
:) Always looking to network and befriend fellow authors, drop by my page.

Nope, hadn't heard of it.
I'm Dee, BTW, realized I started posting without introducing myself. Alas - not enough coffee this morning. :/ I write paranormal (vampire) romance books. Currently have one published novel and am finishing up proofing book two. Book three is already started. I love networking with fellow authors and welcome folks to my facebook.com/d.a.rhine page as well as my goodread' page. Give me a like, I return the favor. And friend me on here!

I'm about 80% through my first novel, but I'm a totally by the seat of the pantster! I started out having a vague idea for a paranormal horror novel with NO intention of writing any romance. Then one day, there I was starring at chapter 2 and realizing in shock that I had just created a romantic interest for my protagonist! Now my story has evolved into a paranormal/horror/romance LOL. I've never read a romance novel before and feel like I'm treading through a strange new land indeed! But it has been fun.

Hi everyone! I'm Jackie and I just published my 11th novel. Writing is how I earn my living and it can be one scary business, especially for an Indie like me. I write both PNR (two series) and contemporary.
Hi everyone! I think this is actually my first post to this group! I'm another indie romance author of the paranormal variety. I published my first book in February 2013, and I'm probably ... half way-ish through writing the 3rd book in my series.Hoping to meet some new people and get some good book recommendations here! Looks like there's plenty to chose from! :D
Hi everyone. Another romance author here. I love everything romance, but I usually sprinkle it with some sci-fi or fantasy, just to keep it interesting. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.
Hi everyone! I'm also a paranormal romance/ young adult writer. My first book was published on April 24 (my birthday present to myself. ) I'm up to my eyebrows in book two. If anyone has some good advice on marketing I'm all ears. Feel free to friend me. Sherri A. Wingler Thanks!
Hi. I'm an indie romance author. Each of my books is stand-alone, and looks at love from different angles.
I'm looking for people to review my books, and will offer a free Mobi file to anyone who promises to leave an honest review after reading it.

Hi Everyone,I'm a published author, settled in US and my genre of writing is contemporary romance. I consider myself as someone who thinks deep, writes light and loves a good laugh.:) Most of us know first hand that writing is a lonely job. Even though good reads makes you feel like half of the world is made up of authors, in real life it seems so hard to come across one. And yes, I have gone out looking with a magnifying glass.:)
Long story short, I just published my multi-cultural and humorous love story, Only Wheat Not White. Now I have some time on my hands where I can socialize at least on the web and as porn was never my thing so here I'm reaching out to my peers :)). Would love to interact with you all, listen, vent and swap stories and if anyway I can help any aspiring author with my own experiences, I would love to do so. Here's a link to my books on goodreads. Also as I'm new to goodreads please bear with me if I have flouted any rules here... I take very well to suggestions and advice. Varsha DixitThank you.

Hi fellow Romance authors!I am looking for anyone interested in beta reading and copy editing my first novel, "Remembering Scarlett." The genre is young-adult romance. A general description is followed by this ad. My novel contains medical elements (not cancer, I promise) as well as some language and mild romance. I am willing to swap and beta read as well. Message me if interested, or leave a comment :)
Thanks everyone!

"Scarlett would give anything to go back to the days when Ryan was her best friend. Ryan is doing everything to make sure she stays in his past. The farther they grow apart, the tighter Scarlett holds on to their relationship, until Ryan has had enough. He wants nothing to do with her and forces her out of his life. But then a should-be-fatal accident causes Scarlett to develop Retrograde Amnesia. She can’t remember anyone in her life except for the last person she was with, Ryan. Ryan is left with the choice of helping his old friend or moving on to a future without Scarlett."
Hi everyone,I'm new to the group and write erotic romance. After writing and self publishing my debut novel last year, I'm planning to really seriously focus on my writing career from now on, starting with the release of my second novel this month, and hopefully more by the end of the year.
So far I've not used Goodreads all that much, except for the occasional giveaway, so I'm looking forward to hanging out in this group of likeminded folks :)
H.
Hello, everyone!I write paranormal romance, suspense, and mystery novels. My debut novel launched on May 30th, followed up by a free prequel, and I'm participating in Camp NaNo this month to see if I can get the sequel out by October (right in time for Halloween! Hooray!).
I'm super excited to connect with everyone here!
Hey guys! Although my first book was a romantic thriller, my second novel Twisted Illusions: Part I of the Twisted Trilogy is actually the first book in a contemporary romance trilogy!I love getting to know other authors so don't be afraid to say "Hey!"
Hi everyone!I'm a new member here. An author and a reader.
I don't see any self-introduction post (if there is, sorry for missing it) so I just jumped here directly to inform that I'm an active book reviewer ( though I'm currently overloaded so I'm taking a break from review request ) but I regularly post honest reviews and participate in blog tours on my blog.
I'm also a romance author, I'm writing different genre, but the only thing I published so far are contemporary romance. But when the other genre is out they would more or less fall in the same category anyway haha :D
Nice to meet you all!
Hello! I'm a newly published Paranormal Romance author! A very excited one at that! I'm open to advice for marketing and getting reviews...this is much harder than I thought it was going to be. I'm also very big on helping promote other indie authors and plan a section on my website devoted to this, including reviews and FB/Twitter recommendations. I'm hoping to either find this, or start up a network of fellow authors willing to do the same.
I'm a new member here as well. My first novel, Voice of Innocence, will be released by Melange Books, LLC on February 26th. Right now, it is available for pre-order. Check out information at https://www.smashwords.com/books/view... and on amazon at http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TMX826K.
If anyone is interested in reviewing my novel, please let me know! My author page is at lindsaydetwiler.wordpress.com.
Thanks so much!

I'm an aspiring romance writer, specifically adult paranormal romance, and I'm looking forward to discussing the genre with other romance writers.
Each genre has its little quirks and I hope you all stop by to chat!
