Does it seem improbable that since Mark is a psychopath, there were not obvious signs that Hannah should have picked up? Also, where did he go when he was supposedly in New York?

I just finished the book. I am also wondering what the weekend where he went missing -- his explanation was that he was in the Berkshires trying to connect with some character that was going to lend him money (presumably to buy Nick off). When it came to light at the end of the book that he never intended to give Nick 2M (only the 250K that was the combo of Hannah's savings, his savings, additional mortgage on the house), I wondered what the purpose of that weekend really was. Other than the catalyst that started the ball rolling, of course. I don't think it was explained, did I miss it?

I don't think you missed it. There were several possible explanations but none of them were ever verified.

Psychopaths are pretty charming and convincing when they're in the romancing stage of a relationship. After that it's downhill very rapidly.
