I love cookbooks. I have lots of them, most of which I have never actually got as far as cooking from!
Am I alone in loving these books.
They have to look nice I love to bake and picking out a new cake book in beautiful pastel coloured hardback with gorgeous photographs is one of my favourite things to do.
It's not just the books either I collect 3 different baking magazines, something sweet, cake decorating and disney cake and sweets (I have a small disney obsession also, combining these two has me rushing to the shops to pick it up each week).
I love to just flick through them and imagine all the things I could make.
Now not to boast but I'm told my cupcakes are quite nice, so I'm happiest discovering new ways to change them, my favourite is lemon and white chocolate chip.
Now savoury cooking I'm not so good at my timings suck, I forget things I was supposed to do or ingredients. Nevertheless I have a tonne of books for savoury cooking, I even have a spicy food one, despite the fact I am actually allergic to chilli and cannot cook a single recipe from said book to eat myself!
Please tell me someone else out there has a shelf of barely used beautiful cook books. It would make me feel much better about my stash!

Rose, I love to collect cookbooks! I ordered 3 from Amazon just this week. I tend toward the more savory side of cooking. I usually take a cookbook out of the library, and then if I really like it I get a copy for myself. My most recent acquisitions are The Art of Simple Food II: Recipes, Flavor, and Inspiration from the New Kitchen Garden, Chelsea Market Cookbook: 100 Recipes from New York's Premier Indoor Food Hall, and Susan Feniger's Street Food: Irresistibly Crispy, Creamy, Crunchy, Spicy, Sticky, Sweet Recipes. I also subscribe to 2 cooking magazines, and I spend a lot of online time on food sites. I usually do try to attempt some of the recipes. From Alice Waters book I made cauliflower dipped in spicy seasoned yogurt, tossed in seasoned flour, and then deep-fried in peanut oil. YUM!

I have a love hate relationship with cookbooks, I love to cook but I find recipes way too faffy and usually end up reading the recipe and doing my own thing. So I used to find that I had loads of cookbooks and never use them, so now I don't buy them.

I'm actually paleo now so the only food I eat is meat, veg, fruit and dairy so not much call for recipes!

My friend has just converted to a Paleo diet she's finding it a bit tricky to give up sweets and chocolate. How do you find it?
I have to agree about some of the content of recipes. I adapt as I go when I do cook!

Lucy Mason (lmason17) Ooh Vikki, I am thinking about moving to a Paleo diet - do you have any good non-fiction recommendations here?!

Also, I LOVE cookbooks so, so much. Currently *loving* For The Love of Food: Vegetarian Recipes from the Heart by Denis Cotter.

I'm wheat intolerant, so baking books have definitely taken a back seat with regards to my cookbook collection. Definitely more of a savoury girl.
