It looks like I am the first it strike in March too. My library is growing as fast as my love for reading... On the eighth day, God created books and humans with the intelligence to love and read them.

March has started with a bang! Cutting down to at least keep track with my reading has gone out of the window, I've bought 11 books more than I've read this year (and I've read 25 books so far!). I bought these so far this month:The Life and Death of St Kilda by Tom Steel
England's Constable by Joseph Darracott
The Science of Discworld III: Darwin's Watch by Terry Pratchett
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Black Holes and Baby Universes by Stephen Hawking
Long Walk to Freedom: The Autobiography of Nelson Mandela
though combined I paid less than £10 so I'm not exactly stretching my finances. :-)
I just finished reading my 14th book for the year, so I rewarded myself by buying 16 new ones....that makes sense right? Ha! I got:

I'm so jealous of everyone who gets to go to library sales :) My library doesn't have enough books to get rid of anything (seriously). :-/
I'd been doing so well, getting through my unread books and not buying any new ones, but then today I just had to pick up
and
. They're both so thick that they manage to completely take up the whole space I spent clearing this year by getting rid of books after I read them. =/ Oh well. They look like good books and they were only 50p each. :D
Just went to my first ever book sale for the Cobb County Library. There were tons & tons of books. Saw plenty of Twilight & Eat, Pray, Love books for sale. My husband bought a few; I think he felt bad for me because I didn't really come away with a lot. I picked up
, it was really for him. How funny is this; I saw 2 books that I had donated to our local library @ the sale.
Purchased
from a so-called 2-hand book shop. They are not much cheaper than the new book shops here in Brisbane! A bit disappointed at their prices, really.
Got a mix the other day. A couple of new books ordered arrived:
, a used book order arrived:

I did find last year a copy of the second Game of Thrones book in my village library for 20p though!
Bought two hardbacks from a local charity shop this afternoon, but resisted a Folio Society edition of Three Men In A Boat in another:
Stephen Hawking by Michael White and John Gribbin
The Lost Treasures Of Troy by Caroline Moorehead
Picked up The Stand: Complete and Uncut ($5 paperback) today at my local used bookstore. I've been looking for it for a while. I was going to pick up Night Film by Marisha Pessl and The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, but put them down. Any input on those 2?
Another book binge. Picked up some nice finds at Half Price Books yesterday:
and for a dollar a piece:
Another delivery arrived:

Finally! I got most of the books I ordered from Doubleday Bookclub back on November 29, 2013. After sending note after note to them, I finally got someone last Monday to say they would resend my oder. But they then took an additional $16.01 they debit card from my checking account. My husband was pissed. I sent another note asking why I was charged again, that my husband was very mad and I was to drop my club membership. A new note came back I was dropped from the club, my account was credited $16.01. Today I got 4 of the five books. Road to Cardinal Valley by Earlene Fowler, Miss Julia Stirs up Trouble by Ann Ross, The White Princess by Philippa Gregory, and the Hunter and other Stories by Dashiel Hammett. Let's see if the fifth book shows up.

I think you're better off out of their 'club' if they are going to do things like that. :-(
Ilean wrote: "Finally! I got most of the books I ordered from Doubleday Bookclub back on November 29, 2013. Because when I was a kid, my Mum was a member of a Doubleday Book & CD club here in Aus who were just as bad! She ended up quitting them and she warned me off them when I thought about joinging them. They're a mob of idiots, apparently.
No, USA, Illinois. I had been a member two different times in the past with very little problems. But this was definitely crazy. I had never had an order take that long before. And I never had to prepay before. Doubleday used to always send a bill with the shipment.
Maybe some other organisation is running things now… wouldn't be the first time.I bought two books in The Works yesterday, one a superb atlas of maps of historical events and the other an authorised biography of Neil Armstrong. I'm not entirely happy that I'm getting into biographies but it's people who are of particular interest who were important in some way that interest me (Stephen Hawking, Nelson Mandela, George Stevenson…) rather than ghost-written bios of Katy Perry or some other celebrity. if I find myself reading bios of Tom Jones or Girls Aloud I think I'll take an overdose! Closest I've come was Bill Oddie (who's a birdwatcher like me, hence the interest), Stephen Fry and Jerome K. Jerome. Jerome's was really quite boring, particularly as he wrote mainly of people I've never heard of and didn't really explain who they were. Stephen Fry's was at least about a rather interesting life and was well-written.
Historical Atlas of the World
First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong
Kiera wrote: "@Paulfozz, I LOVE Girls Aloud and I love their autobiography. :)"Edit: hmm… after some thought perhaps I should keep my opinions on manufactured girl/boy bands and the cynical money harvesting nature of the 'music' business to myself! Though I've said it all there really. ;-)
Anyway...
yet more purchases yesterday. I bought these in the local hospice's 10p box:
Angela's Ashes: A Memoir of a Childhood
Nathaniel's nutmeg: how one man's courage changed the course of history
and found a copy of this in the Oxfam bookshop in town for £4:
The Artic Year
it looks very interesting, a book written at the end of the 1950s giving a month by month account of the Arctic, in terms of both the wildlife and the people living there.
Don't worry, Paulfozz, I have an extremely wide range of musical tastes (much broader than most people). I like, rock, pop, RnB, motown, country, urban, classical, instrumental soundtracks, musicals... Basically the only genres I don't like are death metal and hardcore hip-hop. It doesn't bother me how a band/artist starts out. If I like the sound of their music, I like them. And I especially like GA because they defied the odds. They broke the manufactured band curse by lasting ten years, three of them became best friends, and they became one of the most successful pop groups in the world- all after a really rough start. My hat goes off to them.

Just went to B&N with my niece today and purchased
,
,
. So far this month, I have purchased 5 books
I ordered six books from Thriftbooks and received an order of six books from Thriftbooks. Three of them,
I did order, but the three others that arrived I never ordered! It's got me wondering will I get the other three that I did order or did someone else get my books like I seemed to get theirs? I sent a message to the website so time will tell, I guess.
Update: One of my three books not yet here has arrived
and I got a message back from the website that I would receive a refund for the other two and I was welcome to keep all of the books that were incorrectly sent as well as the two yet to come with no charge. I'm certainly optimistic that the other two will arrive since they were sent the same time as this last one, but in any case, it was a pleasant surprise to receive the refund.

That's a lot of books Richard - good haul!I added one this week, though it's more an 'upgrade' of a book I already own. I found a copy of the Folio Society edition of Life by Richard Fortey, still sealed in plastic, for £5. New copies are £45 so I couldn't really pass on it! I have a paperback copy already, which I'll probably pass onto a naturalist friend or to charity if he doesn't want it.

One thing I love when travelling is exploring used bookstores in other countries. I got these last week in Warsaw, from around 2.5-5zł each (mostly under €1):

When I travel I love buying books about the area I have travelled to and about the monuments etc.
