Ugh, I'm also not liking Nat right now. I can't imagine ever betraying my best friend like that. Or maybe she will just betray Dodge but still. I would never be able to participate in this either. Even the first challenge had my going "nope."

The invisible judges feel a bit like Saw and a bit like 1984's Big Brother.
Apart from his Natalie- obsession, I prefer Dodge, he's edgier.
I do not trust Natalie at all...

I really don't like Nat as a character and I can't help but feel that she is going to betray Heather! I also kind of wish there wasn't so many subordinate characters who are part of Panic but have no real back story yet as I am finding it hard to keep track of them...
But I am incredibly excited for more tasks!!

I do not trust Nat at all though...
One thing I have a problem with is not knowing what is going on with the rest of the world whilst all this is going on?? It seems like everything is Panic... But yeah, I am really enjoying it so far, very gripping!

I'm really really enjoying this so far and I can't wait to devour the rest of it this weekend!

Also, I didn't like how the book started with Heather whining about her boyfriend breaking up with her. I have no problem with that being an issue in the book. I've loved books that were all about high school heart break and I have loved characters that whined about it. It just turned me off with it being on the very first page. I think I would have gotten into the book faster and been more excited for it if it started with second "chapter."
Other random things. I don't like Nat. I predict Bishop is one of the judges (Also think he send Heather the 'warning' text because he doesn't want her hurt and drove by the dummy to give her advance notice of the challenge). I love Bishop and want him with Heather. I suspend my sense of disbelief so it's no big deal, but there is no way this game would still be going on if there had been 3 deaths and at least one person paralyzed. Someone would have stopped it.
Conclusion: I think I'm going to like the book, but I need to get more into it. =)

Also, I think Bishop is one of the judges and i think he sent the text to Heather. I also think that there is a best friend-love thing going on and im interested in that bc i think heather and bishop make a cute couple :3
About Nat, i'm not sure yet because many people hate her but i mean maybe at the end she ends up giving the 50% to Heather and 50% to Dodge? Maybe it'll be a plot-twist IM HOPING bc if not then i'm not liking her too hot lol.

This read-a-long is amazing, really, because I found that some loved the beginning and found it very fast-paced and intriguing while I was struggling with the pacing and the characters. I love that diversity of opinion. Plus, it motivated me to keep on reading despite my reservations.

oh that's interesting!

I like your thoughts on Bishop. It would make perfect sense if he was a judge. I immediately thought when they drove past the scarecrow that they were really lucky to have found that, and what are the odds? Right now its hard for me to think of who else could be sending her warning letters unless its...Nat. Dun Dun Dun...

But as the book itself it's really good so far! I'm hooked.

I have one issue so far and it is the use of the word slotted on page 82. It's a small knit-picky thing but I found it to be extremely jarring and it definitely took me out of the text for a moment.
Really fast paced, it goes into detail about the trials but I feel a bit unattached. I think a purely spectator account would add that extra element, but as only a handful of people showed up for the "Trigger-Happy" dare that may not be an option for later dares.
I am still on the fence about Bishop and Nat. I want to like Bishop because Heather likes Bishop but I'm not so sure. I think he might be a judge but... that is almost general consensus at this point. Nat... just... uggg. If either Heather or Dodge win, she's in on half the pot. Either way she wins. From her perspective, she has no hope of winning with her sprain so she has nothing to lose by making the promise twice.

The challenges so far are interesting and I must as I would have said nope to the water tower challenge.
Anyways, I'm curious what happens next and if the book will finally get me hooked. But one thing that annoys me is the third person style of writing, not that it's poorly written, no, but I just don't like third person.
And I'm curious if we get to know who the judges are.
Till now I would give the fist 96 pages 3 out of 5 stars.

I wasn't sure of the trials because they're so risky, but I love the concept and plot.
I, much like almost every one here it seems, think that Bishop may be a judge. I'm on the fence because he is close to Heather and Nat.
Speaking of Nat, I DON'T LIKE HER ANYMORE. I was leaning more towards 'she's okay' in the beginning, but as soon as she made the deal with Dodge I just ugh. The sprained ankle won't get her far, so by making 2 deals she has heightened her chances of winning (if Dodge or Heather win, that is).
I love having Dodge's POV but it leaves me with so many questions!
Also, I think I would like if Bishop and Heather got together, but I wouldn't mind if they stayed friends because I really like the 'sibling-like' bond that they have.
Now I'm off to go read the rest!

Yes I definitely think Nat is up to something...
Also- i DO think that bishop could be a judge. That was my current theory too.

I hadn't thought of Bishop being a possible judge, but seeing people mention it here made me think again, and that totally makes sense!
As soon as the tigers were revealed, I had a feeling they may play a part later on in Panic. I'd really like to see that!
I'm curious to know what the rest of the town thinks of this game. Since kids have died while playing, don't the adults and/or teachers attempt to stop them? That hasn't really been mentioned, and I'm wondering how it's continued for seven years despite how highly dangerous it is.
