Watching your friends and co-workers slowly die from a massive flu outbreak around you, can drive anyone to suicide. Dani and Zoe are two young women that find comfort in knowing each other is doing okay. While both women try to help each other locate family members, they fall ill themselves. This is a story about struggle after an outbreak. Struggle to keep courage, hope and humanity alive.
Both women end up leaving their homes on opposite sides of the country to reach one another. Zoe’s military personnel brother find’s Dani holding on by a thread of her life and nurses her back to health before heading off in the new world. The group runs into many obstacles as they stop at each person’s home town that is in the group looking for surviving family members. Zoe also heads out and runs into her own group of military personnel. They also run into obstacles while slowly discover that all the surviving people may have abilities. As this is a sign of both weakness and a bit of a freak show, both girls keep it to themselves slowly opening up as more abilities begin to emerge. Both the women keep connected though e-mail as the phones signals no longer are up and running but even then as more time passes the internet begins to cut in and out as well.
If you follow my mini reviews you know I am not a fan of two characters telling the story. It is something I am getting used to as so many newer books coming out seem to be having multiple POV’s. I very much enjoyed this book. I kept forgetting the women were 26 years old maybe around 21-22 I would have put them down for. If you are looking for a fast paste adventure this isn’t for you. If you are looking for a book about growing and a journey then I would highly recommend it. I felt the situations both women were put in, were real and terrifying. Lindsey Fairleigh and Lindsey Pogue portrays a new post apocalyptic world with vivid descriptions making the book come alive before your eyes. I cannot wait for the second installment.

After The Ending (The Ending #1)
by Lindsey Fairleigh (Goodreads Author), Lindsey Pogue (Goodreads Author)
THE FIRST BOOK IN THE EMOTIONALLY CHARGED POST-APOCALYPTIC ROMANCE SERIES, The Ending.
The Virus spread. Billions died. The Ending began. We may have survived the apocalypse, but the Virus changed us.
When people started getting sick, “they” thought it was just the flu. My roommate, my boyfriend, my family…they’re all gone now. I got sick too. I should have died with them—with the rest of the world—but I didn’t. I thought witnessing the human population almost disappear off the face of the earth was the craziest thing I’d ever experience. I was so wrong. My name is Dani O’Connor, and I survived The Ending.
The Virus changed everything. The world I knew is gone, and life is backwards. We’ve all had to start over. I’ve been stripped of my home, my dreams…all that is me. I’m someone else now—broken and changed. Other survivors’ memories and emotions haunt me. They invade my mind until I can no longer separate them from my own. I won’t let them consume me. I can’t. My name is Zoe Cartwright, and I survived The Ending.
We’ve been inseparable for most of our lives, and now our friendship is all we have left. The aftermath of the Virus has stranded us on opposite sides of the United States. Trusting strangers, making sacrifices, killing—we’ll do anything to reach one another. Fear and pain may be unavoidable, but we’re strong…we’re survivors. But to continue surviving in this unfamiliar world plagued by Crazies and strange new abilities, we have to adapt. We have to evolve.
And more than anything, we have to find each other.
