Thanks for the tip, Beth. I had just begun chapter one, and I had the impression that it was bouncing around from past to present to future, but I couldn't figure out why. Sparknotes and Shmoops have both been helpful. Thus far (still in the first chapter) I am finding this book to be more interesting than I originally thought I would.
Hi Jennifer, I felt the same way. The cliffnotes gave me an outline to follow. I had heard such mixed opinions on the book and was determined to get as much out if it as possible even though it involved having to read spoilers. It did not take away from the book for me though. It's not really a story that is necessarily spoiled by knowing what happens because Faulkner jumps back and forth revealing bits and pieces, not just WHAT happens but the how and why that reveals itself along the way through the tangled thoughts of the characters. I'm glad I stuck with it as it really is a fascinating and memorable novel, unlike anything I have read in the past.
