What is your favourite non fiction book?

message 2: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Mason (lmason17) I loved A History of God: The 4,000-Year Quest of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam by Karen Armstrong - such a wonderfully erudite woman!

Welcome to the group Lucy! I shall look that up. I haven't read any non fiction in regards to religion. I should get to it.
These groups are bad for me. My to read list grows by the hour!

Lucy Mason (lmason17) It's definitely one of my favourite genres of non-fiction! The history of the religions of the world is fascinating.

And thanks, Rose! I'm happy to be here. I understand what you mean about these groups - however, they've really helped me to start reading stuff that is outside my usual comfort zone, which is great.

Yes they do. Before I joined goodreads, the last and probably only non fiction book I read out of choice was the Diary of Anne Frank! A great book.
I've read a few interesting ones recently and found so many more!
I also love quizzes, so lots of non fiction reading might help me actually win...
I read In the Heart of The Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick and found that quite fascinating. I've actually got two biographies on the go too. A Marilyn Monroe one and a Walt Disney one I'm enjoying both.
Can't wait till my next library trip to raid a few more!

Hi Lucy and welcome,

That book sounds good Ill have to add it to my wish list!

My favourite book for non fiction has to be Getting Things Done The Art of Stress-Free Productivity by David Allen Getting things done. It really changed my life in regards to goal setting and task management.

Oo I love targets. I may have to branch into this self help and development genre.

message 8: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Mason (lmason17) I agree - I've not ever read any self-development books, but it's a genre I am really interested in exploring.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Let's do a group one then. We can explore all together!

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

That's a good plan Rose. As a second group read this month?

message 11: by Varun (new)

Varun Ravula (varunravula) | 1 comments My favorite one is 'The Exclusive Biography of Steve Jobs by Walter Issacson'. Its very well written. The author is unbiased and also successful in engaging the readers. Rather than a mere tribute to Steve's achievements, the author also presents the criticisms about Steve regarding his work style and his personnel life.

I would suggest this book to anyone who wants to read a good bio. Contrary to popular belief, this one is not at all boring :)

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Varun. That seems interesting I prefer to read both sides of the story as it were. Ah Vicky it might have to be next month I'm so busy, I hardly have time to catch my breath!

It is very good Lorah. I must write a review one of these days. It has dug me out of overwhelming situations many a time. Thinking about skim reading it again.
