Has anyone or is anyone taking any writing courses? Done or is doing an MFA? Seriously considering one. Any thoughts? Need some motivation to write.....

Never taken writing courses but I was very interested in writing fiction when I was younger. I never really had the dedication or patience back then and have been trying my hand at it again this year (with a little more success).

I'm interested in writing because i'd like to replicate the experience I've had with books... but mastery of the thing is difficult, that's for sure.

I am thinking of another writing course just to give me that kick in the butt. Used to be very motivated when I was in college, but now....not so much.

I'm in high school, took a Creative Writing class last semester.

It was pretty fun, gave me someone that I can talk to about my own writing. Really wish that we had another one, even though I'm not sure if I'd be able to fit it into my schedule for next year.

I have thought about it, but still only get so far as writing a small bit for someone else before scrapping it or forgetting about it. I am not sure I'll ever seriously sit down to write much.

I took a Writing Fiction course in college, and I really liked it. However, I have always been really paranoid about allowing other people to read anything other than essay-type writing. That kept me from really trying in the course... during my final meeting review from the professor, she told me that I could really do something with my writing if I decided to make an effort and be serious. I thought "yeah... that sounds about right." Just can't do it. I am in an MA in English program, but I am going the Literary Studies route rather than a writing focus.

Lately I decided (on mostly a non-serious level) that I should try to write Romance. I don't read the stuff, which may be a problem... but I have been hearing about how people can make a good amount of money self-publishing Romance. The only problem would be my possible loss of self-respect.....

Romance writers can make some serious moolah! Just look at Barbara Cartland! You do need to read to be be able to edit your own writing though! Hahahaha..although I or others would be more than willing to do that for you.

Out of curiosity, what makes you want to get an MFA? And what would you plan on doing with it?

Just to prove with my MS that I can do it..and maybe improve my publishing chances.

You can do it! You can do it! No matter what, it would be fun. Graduate degrees always come down to the money, IMO.
