I'm going to have to tackle this - it looks so good! But it is also really, really long. Going to have to figure out when to read it.
ok, I started ....... pg 10 I think. I can already tell it's not going to go down smooth n easy. *sigh* So I know a bunch of you must have read it since you recommended it. I'd love to read what it is you particularly like about the book - it doesnt seem to be the lyrical language at first glance ;-)

FWIW, a suggestion for readers new to Dahlgren and to Delany—read it for effect and don't try to figure out everything that's going on or get too involved in the many tangents unless they intrigue you.

Still one of my favorite books ever, and possibly the only book about writing I've ever encountered that makes a reader so aware of the process. I started reading HOGG because someone told me the Denny character shows up again. Dear gods. Has anyone read this? I am going to need therapy.
end of March and pg 251 - it is certainly turning out to be a bit of a battle. I cant say exactly why - language and structure wise I dont find it difficult, in fact I have to revise my original take on the language - I'm surprised again and again by striking comparisons and beautiful images. I think what makes it a hard go for me is that reading this book I find is a little like sitting in a rowing boat and just letting it drift while spotting the birds that happen by - and I'm not really the kind of person who can do that easily, I get impatient, want to take an active role and row somewhere I feel there will be more to see.
I can see why some people compare it to JJ Ulysses and I keep being reminded of those kids books "read your own adventure" - anyone remember those? - there are many different stories you could be following, it seems.
