For some reason I pictured Kovacs' sleeve as a younger Edward James Olmos. Middle-aged and kinda beatup and weathered.
If they made a movie of this you'd need at least two actors to play Kovacs, one at the begining and one for when he's wearing the cop's sleeve.
The great thing about this series is you could have 3 (or more) actors play Kovacs. I think there are a lot of good choices. Just not Tom Cruise. Maverick: yes; Kovacs: no.
Initially, I imagined it as a Blade Runner type world, but am now folding in Looper, Oblivion and Inception as well. So, I'm thinking Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Kovacs and maybe Nathan Fillion as Bancroft.
Since finishing this book for the up-tine billionth time (I'm a big fan of Take & the narrator Todd McClaren), and I have come to the same conclusion as all the others: this series is a prime candidate for close-to-real CGI and no live action. Hear me out! With a galaxy filled with body hopping consciencenesses, how one looks would be of very little importance. If you want to sell me on the same guy in different bodies, then voice patterns are part of your brain pattern, are completely unique and would transfer despite the body (except, perhaps a change in octave, depending on sleeve size & sex). So I think the casting should be for the voice (and maybe mo-cap facial ticks), and just slight modulation to "adjust" to new vocal cords.
Does that ring true with anyone else?
(Also, my vote is for Mr. McClaren for Take's voice!)
Since Kovacs is in Riker's body for maybe 90% of the story I think one main actor would be fine and I like Clive Owen for this.I kind of pictured Valerie Cruz (Murphy in the Dresden Files tv show) as Ortega. She did that tough cop thing very well.

Takeshi Kovacs: Clive Owen
Laurens Bancroft: John Slattery
Miriam Bancroft: Mischa Barton (I have no idea where that came from but it's in my head now).
Kristin Ortega: Kristen Bell
Oumou Prescott: Danai Gurira
