I recently reviewed a novella called "Onyx Night" from a short series called "Catnip and Cauldrons" that really drew me in. It was the first in the series and I immediately downloaded the second. I started looking into some older books that I adored when I was a teenager, one author in particular being the late Anne McCaffrey in whom her many series have first sparked my now long-life interest in fantasy and science fiction. I have just found out that Acorna: The Unicorn Girl, the first in her Acorna series is on sale on Amazon's Kindle!

This is one of the books that made me more interested in scifi when I was a teenager. A unicorn girl in a space setting? How awesome is that?! And the elements in the story are so unique that I've never really found anything like it anywhere else. I'm not sure how long it will be on sale so give it a try while it's on the cheap! ^_^v

Over the past three years I've become a e-bibliophile junkie, so I've read several variations of the take on vampires. I will say that the J.R. Ward Black Dagger Brotherhood series is very well written but it is going to be the darker side in that the warriors are constantly dealing with very deep turmoil and not always well. I loved them but for those who don't want the tortured souls they may find the books a little deep. But at $1.99 great buy. Personally, I loved the audio version. Jim Frangione can read any book to me and make it sound sexy. :) For the lighter side Amazon has Molly Harper's How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf on the $1.99 daily special for the day. Although it's not as cheap as other Kindle deals I post here, the price did go down quite a bit. The Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner which is the second book in "The Queen's Thief" series is on sale for Amazon's Kindle. For even cheaper (as in free!) books, especially for later books in a series, check out your local library. Many libraries now offer ebooks that you can download wherever & whenever. Your library's website should tell you how to get started, or you can ask a librarian for more information.

I've gotten through the entire Mercy Thompson series this way, and am now working my way through the Iron Druid Chronicles. I was also able to get about a third of the book club picks as ebooks from my library. So their selection & availability is prety good!

If your library has an online library it is a great way to get Kindle books free.
Also scout the free and daily sales on Amazon, you can find some great stuff, but you almost have to check daily.

I keep reading a lot of the free one, it is a hit and a miss, but i have found some good independent authors that way.

I just noticed that this book has dropped it's price by a lot. I don't know how long this sale will last so get it while you can! This book is an illustrated anthology and parodies the typical and mostly silly vampire stories of today. As you can see the title itself references from Twilight, to which most of us hate. ;)

I just finished reading this free book I downloaded a while back and checked Amazon and saw it's still free.

It's a paranormal romance. It was pretty good. Not mind-blowingly awesome but definitely not bad. the cover looks better than when I got it too, if that sort of thing matters to you. I haven't read any of the rest yet but they're also inexpensive at $1.99

Also keep in mind the Kindle Lending Library if you have Prime. (If you don't, it's totally worth it.) I've had my Kindle for years and had no idea this existed until recently!

There is an (almost complete) box set of the Dark Hunters series by Sherrilyn Kenyon for $19.99 that includes 23 books. Up front, it may not seem cheap, but per book, it's less than a dollar each.

I read this book about a week ago and found it to be an interesting near-future romance with lots of mystery. A great first book and an author to watch.

I didn't know anything about today's deal Damocles until I picked it up, but it was surprisingly good. It's a first contact story, and there haven't been many of those around lately. For anyone looking for a fun, optimistic space adventure, it's worth a look!

I just noticed that there is a HUGE price drop on Amazon for Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor, the first book in the Daughter of Smoke & Bone series, for Amazon's Kindle. I've been waiting for a good deal to pop up with this series and finally got one. It's $2.99 right now and I'm not sure how long this deal will last so if you haven't read the series yet and been undecided to dive into it, now's a good chance as any!

Just in case anyone here isn't aware of it, Amazon just released Kindle Unlimited, which is a subscription service where certain ebooks are available to "borrow" for free like you would from the library, and you can check out 10 at a time. I wouldn't pay for this service myself, but they offer a free 30 day trial, so I'm determined to read as many books as I can while the trial is available. :)

@Kim: I looked into the Kindle Unlimited service and just rolled my eyes at the selection of books. At this point I have a very specific reading wishlist of books and out of over 300 books I have in my wishlist, only one or two books are in their library selection. It doesn't help that no notable authors are part of this group. It's full of Amazon published authors which does nothing for me. I have no idea if the service will improve in the future but for now, it's a big fat expensive dud.

Now I'm not saying that someone else wouldn't find the service useful and up to their reading tastes. I'm just saying that the service is extremely limited unless you're a big indie reader. You do have a whole 30 days to figure it out if it's up to your tastes at least. I just know that for me, the service is useless and expensive. It's cheaper for me to just wait till the books go on sale and bonus on keeping the title.

I looked at the Kindle Unlimited. Except for a few books, it looks like to me it's the exact same books that are periodically free. I receive emails from Freebooksy that highlight free books. Sometimes they're only free for a day, or a week, but they show up over and over again...the same books. These are the books that seem to make up most of the Kindle Unlimited. In fact, since they launched it, when I check out the books listed in my Freekbooksy emails, I see the "read it for free" button now on ALL those books. So, yeah. No thanks. :)

I agree completely that the VAST majority of their selection is self-published, which I have very little interest in overall. But the key is not to just browse through the selection page by page; there are some gems if you're looking. I went down the list of TED-recommended books to see what I could get for free and I found a decent number of them available on the list - probably more than I can finish in the trial period, in fact, so I only have out 10.

I think it's worth the price tag of free, especially as I am not currently in a financial situation here I can buy books and ebooks indiscriminately and it's more convenient than waiting a week or more for the library. But I would never pay for it.

For anyone interested there are price drops with two books that I noticed for Amazon's Kindle. I don't know how long these price drops will last so get it while you can!

Weighing in on the Kindle Unlimited, all the books from my publisher are on it. Most Soul Mate titles are 2.99, so you could read 3-4 for the price of the subscription. I haven't decided how I feel about it yet as a reader or a writer.
