I too, well, because I never tasted them. I am a Lacto-Vegetarian, so I don't eat eggs although if there is something like egg-less omlettes, I would love to eat them.

Huh??? In some parts of the world, particularly in India, eggs are indeed considered to be meat, and some vegetarians will not eat them. Usually, this is tied to a religious practice, such as Hinduism (especially Jainism).
Vegetarian Hindus, and those who have come to vegetarianism from a Hindu background consider eggs to be meat, and do not include them in their vegetarian diet. So, while most Westerners believe that eggs are vegetarian, many Easterners do not; this means that whether or not eggs are vegetarian is really dependent on a cultural agreement.
Male chickens are killed immediately - you don't need a hungry male hanging around not laying eggs.
Hens stop being productive layers around 3 years but might live to 12 years. No farmer is going to stay in business keeping unproductive hens about, so they are killed.
In addition hens are often not treated especially nicely.
Eggs have animal DNA, are made of animal cells. So if might be difficult to say eggs are vegetarian.
Copied from here and there.
