Yeah, it's also useful to get good feedback for authors, and I've read a few books outside my usual comfort zone.
I'll second that, Mika.
Apologies for recent quietness, computer's been off having adventures with another man.

I'm not quite sure what to say to that.
Anyway, I'm taking a break from this reading group for a while (sorry). Not enough hours in the day and so on. I'll still drop in now and again, but at the moment I'm struggling to find time to read the books. I'm sure featured authors won't miss my reviews...
Alexandra, whilst delightful when you're here there's no need to apologise for when you're not. Everyone has many demands on their time. I only wish every member could be as active as you, or Steph, or Mika.
Then we'd have more discussion, more publicity for authors and more readers finding good books they otherwise wouldn't.
So far the enormo-list is:
Time Shifters

Mika, more nominations would be good. On the other hand, I'd rather have a good book from one nomination rather than a bad one being the winner of a vote.
And cheers for the Countdown Deal info. Is that an Amazon thingummyjig?

It's a tie at the moment, so if you want to cast your vote so I don't have to do a tie-breaker that'd be very helpful...

I apparently tried to vote just after the poll closed.
It's always irksome when something like that happens. Still, we'll have another vote next month.
With only two nominations and a pretty low turnout I think running both together will just spread participation even more thinly. I'd prefer to just have one OBOTM.

Palanquin of Heaven, only because time travel is something I very rarely find to my taste.

In short, you can nominate a book of any genre (except straight fantasy, which still belongs in the Fantasy Book of the Month category).
In the event of a three-way (or more) tie I'll use random.org to pick one. If there's a two-way tie there'll be a brief tie-breaker poll [if only two books are nominated and they tie I'll use random.org instead of re-running the exact same poll].
So, after nominating your book please do note its genre.
Any nominated book requires seconding to be added to the poll list.
In addition, a reminder that a book that wins because of brand new members who have done nothing but join and vote or 'sleeper' members who are similar but have been around a little longer may be disqualified.
The poll will begin on the 25th of this month.
Remember, kids, it's a very good thing to participate. Not only can you find good books you might not otherwise read, the more contributors we get in these threads the better the feedback for the authors. It'll help potential readers to be warned off bad books and encouraged to read a lesser known but good book.
