Thought I'd resurrect this because I'm curious as to who uses Instagram as an author. How does it help you and how do use it as an author? Is it similar to other social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Tumblr? I mention these because these are the four I use. I know Instagram is a photo website similar to Tumblr but what's so great about it? Is it even worth it for authors? It seems like everyone but us authors use it. I've had countless friends tell me to get one but I don't think they realize that if I made one I'd be posting stuff as an author and they could give two shits(pardon my language) about that and they'd probably tune me out or unfollow me.

Instagram for Authors...is it worth it?

I was the last to comment, surprise surprise. Like my last comment, I still have not made an instagram account. I've heard authors tell me they have one and it's leaning more toward being a hot spot for them but I need more of a reason. So what? I have Tumblr and Pinterest so what do I need Instagram for? I feel that's all it is, two apps in one. I also heard you have better interaction when you take and post your own pics? I don't usually take my own pics and when I do no one cares lol. So again...why????

Ember-Raine Winters (ember-raine_winters) | 13 comments I kind of feel the same way! I have an instagram but I don't use it. I don't really see the point of it either. Especially since I don't take a lot of pics. Plus I try my best to keep my pen name so it's unrelated to my real name except with my friends and family. I have heard that it's worked for others but I will stick with facebook and twitter for now!

Glad I'm not alone on this! haha

Ember-Raine Winters (ember-raine_winters) | 13 comments Nope definitely not! I use Pinterest for personal use but not promoting and I have never used tumblr! I should probably look into it eventually but meh! Lol

Yeah I just started using Pinterest again. I've had Tumblr for a while, I used to have it because an ex-gf used it but after that ship sailed I turned it into a Horror blog lol, not bad a turnaround!

Ember-Raine Winters (ember-raine_winters) | 13 comments Nice! Maybe I will have to look into it! Sometimes I can barely keep up with the SM I have now plus my blog and Goodreads! Who has time to write with all this other stuff going on? Lol

Michael Benavidez | 1605 comments I have Instagram sorta. I mean I have one but I don't use it. When I did it did help a bit, get to link it with your other social media feeds, and what not. But it seems mostly beneficial to those that really take a lot of pictures, as well as are active with other Instagram accounts.

As I thought. Also it's really for teens to show what and be goofy, or people who like taking pics of their pets and their food.

Michael Benavidez | 1605 comments The people I follow(ed) do book challenges as well. They take pictures of book according to what the challenge is.
Ex: "winter themed books" and they'll post pic of the stack of books based around winter that they own etc.

I've had an account for half the year. So far while I've had some success I haven't seen an impact on new followers in my work or any sales but I feel it was good to create an account and get on. My followers are building, I'm slowly getting the hang of things and I'm really looking to start finding a niche on there. Here's to hoping and please feel free to chime in and share your instagram success or failures!

Seems like a lot of people are finding success with IG as authors and businesses. I'm trying but I still haven't got this quite down. Anyone have success using Instagram?

message 20: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Williams (thewrongwriter) | 6 comments Yay, more IG people to follow!

I use Instagram as a marketing vehicle. I'm terrible at design and barely competent at photography, but I know how to write weird/silly/groaner remarks!

So I create little bits of mental wrongness. A fun break from glamour shots and food pictures, to poke the brain and make you chortle. It also serves as a brief sample of my work.

My IG: https://www.instagram.com/10secondsof...

I've only run mine for a couple months now, so it's still very new/low follower count. Haven't run any ads yet either, but I will soon. I do plan on leveraging it as an author in the coming year(s)!

message 21: by Caitlyn (new)

Caitlyn Hamilton (paperbackbinch) | 2 comments Haha I'm on there a bit, mostly to follow other book people.
I've barely used it yet, but I hope to use it more in future for book hauls, and possibly making some cross-promos for eventual youtube videos.
