We're studying Lord of the Flies, Of Mice and Men, An Inspector Calls and Carol Ann Duffy's poetry :)
I'm hoping to do English Literature at Uni :)At school, we're studying The Woman In Black. Since the beginning of the year, we've done 'Heroes', 'An Inspector Calls' and 'Lord of the Flies'.
Yeah, I loved them all, especially Romeo and Juliet. To kill a mockingbird is also rather sad towards the end :( :)
I take German! But unfortunately I go to school in a poor community and we only offer 2 years of German. My mom gave me all the Grimms fairy tails in German and I can't wait until I'm good enough to read them. I'd LOVE to be fluent.
I take Literature as one of my modules, the books I've studied so far are Dracula and The Mayor of Casterbridge! I'm doing Othello now :)
Emma wrote: "It's about this guy called Faust who makes a contract with the devil (who made a bet with god on how he could make Faust go astray from the right way) to win over a girl called Gretchen and "heads ..."We had to read Faust too and I actually really liked it. But I'm German so it's probably easier for me to understand. I hope you don't have to read the sequel, because I've heard multiple times that it's worse than the first one.
I'm doing English Lit at A Level- anyone else doing it? Since people are talking about languages as well, I'm also doing Spanish. I was looking into doing an English and Spanish course at uni, but I'm not sure because it looks difficult!
I'm doing english lit at the moment. Just finished all my CA's on Romeo and Juliet, A frosty night, and Song of the Workers wife. Now we're doing 'Heroes', 'An Inspector Calls' and 'Of mice and men' the last of which I loathe.
Also, my exam board is WJEC, and I know a lot of the texts mentioned here are on the syllabus. I'm hoping to do English lit and language at college.
Emma, I saw you said you were reading Faust? Well, while I've never heard of that particular story, there is an old English story I read a while ago called Doctor Faustus! It's a similar story, if I remember correctly, it's about a man who bargains with the devil to give him immortality, a demon for a servant (who gives him whatever he wants), and the only price to pay is that when he grows tired of living, his soul goes to the devil. (Either that or he asks for the demon for a servant and special knowledge, but only has a certain amount of time live before his soul goes to the devil. I can't actually remember! I should reread it.) Anyway just thought it was funny, the similarities :)
I'm going to uni (York probably) in October to study English lit :)Right now we're studying Dr Faustus, Wuthering Heights and The Bloody Chamber. I also got to write a piece of coursework on Birdsong, and another on 1984 and Cloud Atlas which were a lot of fun!
Since English is not my native language, I learn it at school. It's just the general stuff to learn how to speak it (it's so easy), but maybe I'm going to study it later.
I'm studying English lit for GCSE :) I have studied To Kill a Mockingbird, The Crucible (which I love) and Romeo and Juliet!
For GCSE, I did Lord of the Flies, Romeo and Juliet, Hobson's Choice and then the poetry anthology (maybe more? Don't remember). For AS, I did Spies, Othello, Chaucer and All My Sons :) I much prefer to read in English too... Coming from someone with a Modern Languages degree haha. Side note, but any of you doing French or Spanish at school, or thinking of doing languages at uni, feel free to ask me anything lol x
I'm studying English Lit at A-Level too, but we study really boring texts, so instead I just read my own books :) xx
I am taking the IB Diploma! :) I am currently in the first year of the 'real' IB, but I have done PDP aswell :)
I'll be starting IB1 next academic year (I haven't done PDP but I'm doing MYP5 now) and I'm quite nervous about it! I don't know what subjects to choose... Do you have any advice you could give me on that? Are you liking the IB? :)
This may not be the best tip, but choose the subjects you're good at and think are fun. The same goes for choosing HL/SL subjects. Also think about what you want to study after the IB (if you want to go to uni) and take that in consideration :) Just keep in mind that choosing HL on all science subjects can be quite demanding, but if you like that, then go ahead :)I do like the IB, even if it is demanding at times. I have really good classmates, which I think is quite common to get in the IB. It is probably one of the best decisions I've ever made (even though at times it feels like the worst) and I do think that the hard work will pay off :)
If you got any more questions, just ask away and I will try to answer them :)
Good luck!
Thank you so much! :) About the science thing, I was thinking about picking bio SL, but I heard it's hard there's a lot of weird vocabulary, same with psychology, which I was thinking of taking as a HL subject.
I don't know what I'll be studying at uni, so I guess I'll just take into consideration the subjects that I like or that I'm good at :) I'll have to think about it!
Thanks again for all the tips, they were very useful! :)
I just finished at school but I did 'Othello', 'Of Mice and Men', 'An Inspector Calls' and a selection of 'Relationships' poetry. I'm continuing English Literature at A-Level though:)
I just finished my English exam for school last month and for that our class studied The Fault in Our Stars and poetry be Morgan :-)
