I know a lot of us like musicals, so let's talk about it! What are your favourites? Favourite roles? Favourite songs? What musical tears your heart to shreds? Which ones can you not help but want to watch over and over again?

I've been listening to the Book of Mormon a lot lately, but when it comes to musicals that I just love the music to (besides Les Mis :D), The Hunchback of Notre Dame has *amazing* music
Dr. Horribles sing-a-long blog, Carousel, Once on This Island, and Phantom of the Opera are in my top 4 not counting the Disney movies.Dr. Horribles sing-a-long blog is the 45 minute story of the love triangle super villain Dr. horrible, the innocent saintly wan he loves, and her boyfriend the town superhero who is a MAJOR jerk. It's on Netflix, the songs are really catchy, and did I mention NEIL PATRICK HARRIS.
This is a great thread, I needed this! I'm kinda obsessed with musicals so it's really hard to pick. My favourites are Wicked, Les Mis, and N2N. Phantom of the opera, Chess and Pippin are quite close to my top choices though. Now I'm absolutely in love with Songs for A New World which I knew little time ago.
And there's this one amazing argentinian musical I absolutely adore called Dracula which is likely to go to Las Vegas in the next few years. I really wish the rest of the world could see this awesome musical.
ps: sorry if I got carried away, musicals are my one and only love. I could go on talking about this for ages! haha
Such an awesome thread! I love musicals. My faves are Wicked, Into the Woods and Legally Blonde which I just watched and it is so good!!! all I do now is listen to the soundtrack on repeat.I have also been in a couple of amateur musicals which is so fun.
Jekyll & Hyde the original version is my straight up favorite musical EVA! It's gorgeous. However, I love a ton of musicals. I have over 90 musicals in my iTunes library sooo that happened. There are so many good ones out there, but Jekyll and Hyde has kept the #1 spot for years : )
LES MISERABLES!!!!!!!! The favorite character is Eponine (Les mis). Favorite song is Devil take the hindmost from Love never dies.
I recently played 'Rapunzel' in a junior production of Into the Woods so I really enjoy that because it brings back fond memories. I'm also in love with a production of Hairspray a local company did which was fantastic. Musicals are just overall amazing :D
I love musicals so much! I've been involved in is I many of them, as my mum runs a theatre company. I couldn't even try to pick a favourite! bugsy Malone has been my favourite one to perform in though I think!
Mine has to be Rocky Horror as it's individual and original ;) I do want to see Matilda, Wicked, Les Mis and Lion King though :)
Oh my god there are so many musicals that's I love and you're telling me to choose my favouRITE?! GaH!In no particular order I love - Avenue Q, Phantom of the Opera, Les Mis, Little Shop of Horrors, Rent, West Side Story, Billy Elliot, Singing in the Rain, Spring Awakening, Easter Parade, Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, all the starkid productions, Rocky Horror, I've been loving The Book of Mormon soundtrack but I've never actually had a chance to see it
There are so many more that I've forgotten at this moment in time but I love so many musicals
I love Les Mis, Phantom, Spring Awakening, Miss Saigon, Billy Elliot, Matilda and Titanic the Musical! Probably forgot a few, but I just love all musicals! :)
Lovisa, how amazing is Spring Awakening?! There's only 3 other people that I know outside of the Internet who actually knows about it. I think it's fantastic!
I love it so much! The music is amazing and it deals with difficult topics and stuff. I don't know anyone outside the internet who likes (or even knows of) Spring Awakening :)
YES! The music is incredible and if its done well its absolutely beautiful. I've seen it 3 times and I cry every time
I basically love all musicals but my favourite is les mis and honestly I'd play any of the characters if I could. Being in the ensemble is my dream!xx

All you guys have amazing musical tastes woah. I need some new musicals to watch, but I don't know what. I've seen Cinderella, N2N, Wicked, Les Mis, Matilda, Dr. Horrible, Rent, Catch Me if You Can, as well as others that I can't name from the top of my head. Any recommendations?
My favourite musicals have to be Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, Grease and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I've watched them all so much that I can practically recite the script and I'm always slipping in a Mary Poppins quote here and there!

I loved Legally Blonde when I went to see it the songs are so catchy and it was hillarious! wicked is for sure my favorite though. The book however was horrible
I love musicals!! Though I don't have many opportunities to see them :/ My favorite is the Lion King!
Does anyone else love Aaron Tveit, next to normal, Les mis, catch me if you can and wicked? If you do please feel free to message me or add me as a friend :) xx
I absolutely love musical theatre!! Les Mis, West Side Story, and Rodgers and Hammerstein Cinderella have special places in my heart because those are the only ones I've seen live. I adore Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals. but I'm also obsessed with Aaron their, so I love next to normal and catch me if you can. and I always always listen to the last five years because I just think it's brilliant and moving and gorgeous.
I saw Carrie in Les Mis a few weeks ago and that was amazing. I've also seen Wicked and Legally Blonde which were both fantastic as well. I'd love to see just about any musical to be honest though!
I haven't seen Les Mis yet but I'm hoping to at some point. Is there like a specific age rating for the musical?
I'm actually gutted, the first West End production I ever saw is closing after 12 years! We Will Rock You has its last show on 31st May :(
My favourite musical is Les Mis but I love a lot of other musicals :) My school are currently doing a production of Alice in Wonderland which I am in the band for but I have also been part of the stage crew during rehearsals and I'm so rehearsal! Our shows are next week so I'm quite nervous!

Nah, I don't think so - when I went there were some toddlers in front of me and they were fine in there. I think you have to be with an adult if you are under 12 though :)

Oo, musicals ^_^ I absolutely love them all, and I'm hoping to go into MT in the future!I'm a mezzo-soprano, which is very fun because there's so many roles suitable for my range!
I recently did Oliver, and am currently in a production of The Phantom of The Opera, which is amazingly fun! I'm also currently playing Levi (One of the brothers, as no boys auditioned) in Joseph!
I have too many favourite musicals, including Phantom, Les Miserables - I've been lucky enough to see it twice, and meet Carrie once! - The Commitments, Next To Normal, Cats, Jekyll and Hyde, Legally Blonde, Catch Me If You Can, Rent and Wicked!
Lauren wrote: "I'm actually gutted, the first West End production I ever saw is closing after 12 years! We Will Rock You has its last show on 31st May :("That was the first show I ever saw on the West End, too! I was in a production at school as well, and it made me really sad that it's closing!
I saw it on 31st January 2007 with school, took like 5 hours on the coach to go to London! I wish I could see it one last time :(
Ahh I love musicals. Les mis is one of my favourites with Wicked and Billy Elliot. Also, not musicals but would really recommend woman in black and the curious incident of the dog in the night
Wicked, Matilda, Book of Mormon, We Will Rock You etc! The main ones really although I want to see Ushers :)
This thread is perfection :) I was a musical theater nerd in high school and was actually in a production of Les Mis which was so much fun. So that's one of my favorites along with, Wicked, Sweeney Todd, Next to Normal, Spring Awakening, everything Starkid, RENT, and Chicago, amoung others. I still haven't seen Book of Mormon but I've listened to the soundtrack and it's hilarious, so hopefully I got to see it at some point! Also songs from The Last 5 Years have been popping up on my pandora lately, and they're all really good! Haha I love musicals.
Eeeee this is my kind of thread!! I just saw Les Mis for the first time EVER live this past Saturday!! I'm absolutely in love with it. I'd do anything to see it on the West End! I also love, love, love Evita, Matilda, and Next to Normal. Newsies is really good, too! Oh, and Once!! I think I just generally love musicals...hahaha
Juliette: my friend Matt saw Evita last week, and my friend Gabby is so obsessed with Next to Normal. I really need to get around to watching those two especially
Darby: You definitely need to see Next to Normal if you ever get the chance!! I was lucky enough to see it on Broadway for my birthday a few years ago and it was really incredible. Now I listen to the soundtrack all the time. And Aaron Tveit was in the original cast and is on the soundtrack so that's a nice win :)
Darby: Yesss, they're both so good! Next to Normal is all on YouTube, if you have the time! It is definitely worth it! And like Molly said, Aaron Tveit doesn't hurt ;) by the way, Molly, very jealous that you saw it on Broadway!!
Favourite musical is definitely Next to Normal (I don't even really know why, it is just huge for me. Not forgetting Aaron Tveit's amazingness, the whole cast is wonderful), I've recently seen Book of Mormon and it is so good and I laughed for 2h! Have seen Les Miz last week and the cast is incredible, the set amazing but Carrie definitely stands out, her voice irl is even better than what I expected, the part is just perfect for her and she is such a cutie! (Her Marius, Rob Houchen, is so great and really pretty as well)
