The plan, thus far, is to begin this book April 1st.

I decided to add this, even though we won't be reading it til April, because I am really nervous about this book. I have heard so many different things about Dostoevsky...

What have you guys heard about him?

Elle Well- count me in. I will pick this up today. This is such a popular classic so I am looking forward to an interesting journey.

I read the first two pages and the writing isn't scary at all. I am feeling tons better about this book now. :)

How does everyone feel about reading it in a month? It would be about 140 pages per week to read?

message 5: by Elle (new) - rated it 1 star

Elle I'm good with 140 pages per week. If it's not a difficult read, we could probably do more.

Christina T. | 126 comments Mod
I could read it faster. In fact it would be kinda nice to finish earlier in the month like 15th-20th-ish...? But whatever works for everyone is fine with me.

is Celia reading it with us still? anyone else?

message 7: by Elle (new) - rated it 1 star

Elle Not sure if Celia is joining in or anyone else. I'm good with the 15th.

Christina T. | 126 comments Mod
15th is good for me too. A shorter time period would be nice.

Celia (book-fidelity) I'm still with you guys. My job is just kinda...demanding. However, don't let that stop you guys from heading forward with this. I have a copy and I'll try and give my two cents as much as I can.

Celia, sounds good!

I also have heard amazing things about Dostoevsky's the brothers Karamazov ... I don't own it and won't own it for quite a while...but just thought I'd mention it now in case anyone really likes Crime and Punishment...

I am 70 pages into the book and I don't know what to think of it. I haven't been drawn in yet...And I find the personality of Raskol to be contradictory...

message 12: by Elle (new) - rated it 1 star

Elle I'm 30 pages in and I feel the same. He's a strange guy. I can't quite peg his personality yet.

Ugh. I finding this a difficult read... I've been overly busy all week so haven't been able to read much, but now that I have time I find I don't really wanna pick it up! I will, of course, but....ugh... haha...

message 14: by Elle (new) - rated it 1 star

Elle I have felt the same way. I buckled down and read quite a bit Friday so that I could take a break from it this weekend. In don't think I'm supposed to feel that way about a book! Lol. I can't put my finger on it...it's not boring it's just so much work! I could not imagine having to read this as a freshman in college. Raskols being ill and dreary and pale and weak....ugh...just turn yourself in already!

Christina T. | 126 comments Mod
Haha...I know! I find the psychological aspect interesting but after a time it's just too much. And the lead up to the major events takes forever and I find my attention wanders... OH well...

Shoot me Now! I am highly regretting our decision to read this horrid book! I'm only halfway through :(

In fact, if I wasn't so stubborn in finishing books, I would totally use this book as my next fire-starter!

message 17: by Elle (new) - rated it 1 star

Elle LOL- my sentiments exactly. Once I commit to a book I have to finish but I considered abandoning that rule. I determined instead to finish by Wednesday and put an end to this mess. I will simply not understand the hype about this book.

message 18: by Celia (new)

Celia (book-fidelity) My goodness you all read fast! :) just checking in!
