Books on the Nightstand discussion

Running the bookstore in Scotland sounds amazing, but what really got me excited about this episode was Ann's recommendation for the Into the Wilderness series by Sara Donati. I actually came to read Outlander by first reading Into the Wilderness. I was obsessed with this series for a while and actually gave my children the middle names of Elizabeth and Nathaniel and named a cat Boots after the pet name that Nathaniel gives to Elizabeth early in the novel. The series also made me love the genre of historical fiction because of the "realness" that the books give to a fictional account of historical events. I quit reading the series about 4 books in as I waited for the next book to come out and never finished it. I can't wait for the next book so that I can start over from the beginning and continue the series.

I was telling my husband about the bookstore in Scotland. His response was "when are we going?"

Lisa, I was also excited to hear the recommendation for Into the Wilderness. I got the entire series on Audible, and the narration is excellent. I've listed to it at least a couple of times since April and I'm sure I will come back to it in the future.

I just wanted to say that my dad painted a paint by numbers LAST SUPPER and I took a look at it couple of nights ago and I was surprised how good it was.

Into the Wildernessis the book I always suggest when someone is looking for a Gabaldon readalike. Just as Ann stated, I'm not exactly certain why as it's not time travel but it just seems to fit. Good historical fiction.

I've never tried the audio versions of the "Into the Wilderness" series. I'll have to try one this time as I read the series again. My husband gave me the series (up until the one before The Gilded Hour ) for Christmas one year. He might need a reminder to add to my series this year!

For some reason These Is My Words also comes to mind when I'm thinking about Gabaldon readalikes.
