Adding this thread in case you want to discuss any random book thoughts, ideas, revelations, etc.

One thing I wanted to mention since I don't see it happen too often . . . if you did read, are reading, or are planning to read any of the books we have in this group, feel free to join the discussions at any time. If you want to go back and add to past conversations, I would love to see your input and am happy to join back in.

Once a conversation starts in this group, it doesn't only have to take place during the month we are reading! And, if you are too busy to read during the month a book is the main topic, don't let that keep you from reading it later and joining in!

The books that I choose are just the starting point for what can be an ongoing conversation forever!

Alex (necrotic_flesh) | 122 comments I haven't read nearly as much as I would have liked to this year and as I have mentioned before I have been really slack with the books for this book club. I must admit though, you have got me with the November book, just can't resist Stephen King. I just finished reading revival and was finally going to read gone girl but I went out and bought Blaze today...gone girl will have to wait...

Great, Alex! Good to see you again!

message 4: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 944 comments Blaze is one my faves by him. I own it in Hardback, on my Nook and the audio CDs. I am a notorious re-reader and try to experience the books I love in every format. I think it will make for great conversation.

message 5: by Justin (new)

Justin (rockstarintraining) So I've read lots of Stephen King but I uh... didn't know about this book. I haven't read any of the Bachman stuff so I'm looking forward to this.

message 6: by Josen (new)

Josen (josens) | 696 comments I was having a hard time finding Enchanted and my library just got it in. But I went and instead picked up Blaze. :) Think I'll just go with that one.

message 7: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
It is interesting that even some King fans don't know about Blaze. He just snuck it in there!

message 8: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 944 comments Before it was published under Bachman's name you could make an appointment and read it on microfiche (sp?) at a library in Maine. We all knew about it, but couldn't get there to read it! I seriously wanted to plan a vacation around that.

message 9: by Alex (new)

Alex (necrotic_flesh) | 122 comments It is hard to put down haha

message 10: by Justin (new)

Justin (rockstarintraining) Josen, read The Enchanted, too! It's a short read and well worth it!

I agree with this statement.

message 12: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 944 comments I still want to read Enchantment as well, but haven't gotten to it.

message 13: by Josen (new)

Josen (josens) | 696 comments I know. I really should. Okay I'll pick it up. Geez when it comes to books I think I'm too easy. Lol!

message 14: by Justin (new)

Justin (rockstarintraining) The peer pressure got to you!

Oh, no - you mean I am gonna get shoved in a locker again? :(

message 18: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis I didn't get to The Enchanted yet either. But after reading some of the thread, I really want to. I am planning on getting to that one, next or next after next. lol

Has anyone read anything recently that is not on our radar yet but that you think will be a big deal very soon (i.e. the next big thing, Goodreads Choice Awards material, etc.)?

message 20: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 944 comments I have been in a bit of a reading slump and am just so happy I needed to start The Nightingale for this group to help me get out of it.

message 21: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
I heard several people mention an end of the year reading slump. I hope we can be a motivation - but if you need a break, that is understandable.

Sometimes I wish I would get in a slump so I could get other things done!

message 22: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 944 comments My slumps tend to be die to a series of boring books or even just books I don't really like. I have a hard time putting a book aside unread.

FYI - thanks to group member Jana for the following info:

Our April selection - The Lies of Locke Lamora - is available on Kindle for 1.99 and you can add audio for just 3.99 more. Great deal!

message 24: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 944 comments http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/lies-... On Nook for $1.99 as well.

message 25: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Nice! I am glad that April's book will be an affordable option if it can't be found at the local library.

Can't wait to announce the book for next month tomorrow!

Are you excited????

message 27: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis Yes! Especially after my last crash and burn with a "classic".

Fingers crossed that this will be a good one! Last time I picked one I hoped you would like (The Good Nurse), it crashed and burned for you . . . :(

I want to improve my "Vicki Willis track record"!

LOL You are so funny. It is only truly a crash and burn if it goes unfinished!

Kandice | 944 comments I am really going to try to commit to reading along this time. I love Steinbeck, so it should be easy. :) Even if I am in the middle of two bricks with little time to read...*sigh*

I understand that! We would love to have you back in the mix (see the discussions about Mosquitoland - Josen felt overwhelmed as the only woman in the discussion! :))

message 32: by Josen (new)

Josen (josens) | 696 comments Yes Kandice, I would love another female opinion in these discussions. :) I was totally outnumbered last time. Lol!

I thought I owned every single Steinbeck, and I did, at one time, but it turns out my son lost this one. I won't buy the ebook at $12.99, but I will pick it up at the library and dig in. Promise!

message 39: by Richard (new)

Richard (rsquaredreads) | 178 comments Man, where has the time gone? Last time I looked at a calendar, it was May 25th and we were just getting out of school. But between, travel, moving, and band camp, now it's August 8th and we are already a week into school. I didn't get half the books read this summer that I wanted to (hence my slight disappearing act the past few months). I didn't even get to East of Eden and I was really looking forward to that one.....

message 40: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
And . . . East of Eden was really good! A long read, but one of the best we have read so far!

I hope you get a chance to read more soon!

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
So, in my recent event invite, my hint was vague because I wasn't sure what I would pick. I did some thinking and reviewing my shelves and I have picked it! Here is a better hint - I was not too far off, it is both a memoir and it has been burning a hole on my shelf for over a decade. The author has had at least one show on TV with subject matter similar to the subject matter of the book.

message 43: by Josen (new)

Josen (josens) | 696 comments Oh geez......was it a series? How old is the show? Was it comedy or drama? Was he the star or ensemble? Hahahaha! I know I always bug you for hints but it's become kind of a game for me now......"What book has Matthew picked?". I like to see if I'm ever close. :)

message 44: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Series. I think it was funny at times. And, the author was the star.

message 45: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Also, without Googling, I am not sure if the series is still on or not.

message 46: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 944 comments Is it Odd Thomas?!

Kandice wrote: "Is it Odd Thomas?!"

Nope - but I did have a copy of Forever Odd burning a hole in my shelves for awhile . . .

message 48: by Josen (new)

Josen (josens) | 696 comments Wait, the memoir is non-fiction right?

message 49: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Josen wrote: "Wait, the memoir is non-fiction right?"

That is correct . . .

message 50: by Richard (new)

Richard (rsquaredreads) | 178 comments You said the book is over 10 years old right? Also, when you said the author was the star......did you mean the author him or herself was in it or that there was a character based off him or her played by someone else?
