What are your plans for this month?

I plan to continue reading mostly Netgalley books and alternating between genres.

My last read was sci-fi so now I am going contemporary mystery.
I am reading Broken Promise (Promise Falls, #1) by Linwood Barclay Broken Promise by Linwood Barclay

This month I also plan to read:

Winell Road by Kate Foster Winell Road by Kate Foster
Pretty Baby by Mary Kubica Pretty Baby by Mary Kubica
Eeny Meeny (Helen Grace, #1) by M.J. Arlidge Eeny Meeny by M.J. Arlidge
Shadow, Shadow (Shadow Pines, #1) by V.B. Marlowe Shadow, Shadow by V.B. Marlowe
Shadowdance by Robin Wayne Bailey Shadowdance by Robin Wayne Bailey
Alien Child by Pamela Sargent Alien Child by Pamela Sargent
One Last Thing by Rebecca St. James One Last Thing by Rebecca St. James

Not necessarily in that order and probably not all of them and I am sure there will be changes but yeah, that's the plan.

As usual, let me know if anything sounds appealing for a buddy read!

Kandice I plan on reading:
House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III for book club
The Waste Lands (The Dark Tower, #3) by Stephen King
Wizard and Glass (The Dark Tower, #4) by Stephen King
Locke & Key, Vol. 4 Keys to the Kingdom by Joe Hill
Locke & Key, Vol. 5 Clockworks by Joe Hill
Locke & Key, Vol. 6 Alpha & Omega by Joe Hill
and whatever else strikes my fancy!

Kandice Salem’s Lot is a perfect place to start! I think King’s best skill is in creating an entire cast of characters you feel you know by the end of the book. Sometimes, as in Lot, an entire community! This will always be one of my favorites by him.

I think that Red Dragon is even better than Silence of the Lambs! Can’t wait to hear what you think.

Ahah yeah I guess I am.

You guys have awesome choices! Hmm is it just me or are pretty much all of the selections pretty dark? The covers, at least, seem so.

My next book will probably be:

Teagan of Tomorrow (Legend of Rhyme, #3) by Jaime Lee Mann Teagan of Tomorrow by Jaime Lee Mann

I just got it offered to me and I read the first two books of the series last month so I want to read it while it's still fresh.

message 7: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Ha! I think my reading list seems a little dark heavy because I do so many re-reads of King, but much of what I read that's new is not dark at all!

Do you think there is a dark book trend lately? Does it sell better for some reason?

I love the cover for the last book I posted, for instance. Dark ones don't usually appeal to me much.

Melaslithos | 1645 comments I'm going to be quite busy this month too, but still, let's be ambitious as to reading plans.

This month, I'd like to read:
The Unknown Terrorist by Richard Flanagan The Coroner's Lunch (Dr. Siri Paiboun, #1) by Colin Cotterill Wanting by Richard Flanagan This Earth of Mankind (The Buru Quartet, #1) by Pramoedya Ananta Toer On Beauty by Zadie Smith Before the Ripcord Broke Stories by Charlie Close

As expected, my to read list for this month has taken a change.

I read Teagan of Tomorrow and now I just got Annihilation from Netgalley!
I am so excited, this is a book I have been wanting to read for ages but could not bring myself to spend money on it, considering the amount of books I have pending to read.

Pretty sure I will be getting to it this month.

Does anyone want to do a buddy read?

message 11: by Melaslithos (new)

Melaslithos | 1645 comments I just requested Annihilation from netgalley too, fingers crossed (although my ratio is so low and I don't have a blog, so I don't have high hopes).

Otherwise, before I noticed it was on netgalley, I registered on a ring for this book, but I don't think I'll get it before next year.

So if I get approved, I'll read with you. Otherwise, I'll let you start first, and I'll just read it when I get it!

Yay, fingers crossed!
I won't be able to read it anytime soon so just let me know and I will wait for you.

I just got Bricks (Halfskin, #3) by Tony Bertauski Bricks from the author.
Since I read the first two, I will be moving this up and probably be reading it when I am done with the current book.
I recommend the other two books.

Frank Miller is one of my faves! He has such a distinctive style. How can you not love Hartigan and Marv?

Definitely. I'd only put Alan Moore above him, and not by that much.

Kandice @Gavin
OMG! That is exactly what I think! Moore, then Miller then anything Gibbons works on followed closely by Jae Lee.

You just read my mind with Gibbons. I'll have to look into Jae Lee now.

Kandice He's an illustrator, but I love his stuff. He did Stephen King's Dark Tower graphic novels, but he does a lot more as well.

Interesting stuff, Aaron. I read Perfect People by Peter James but it is very different from his usual books. Maybe one day I will get to that one.

message 21: by Kandice (new)

Kandice So far I've read:
The Martian by Andy Weir
You (You, #1) by Caroline Kepnes
Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale
Binary (Hard Case Crime MC8) by John Lange
and am a little over halfway done with
The Waste Lands (The Dark Tower, #3) by Stephen King

Beautiful. Are you currently reading something about that?

Melaslithos | 1645 comments The month is not quite finished yet, but since I'm leaving tomorrow on holidays, in a place where I'm not quite sure I'm going to have internet, I decided to do a quick wrap up now.

And this month, I've been quite extraodinary on track. I haven't been able to read everything I would have loved to, but not far. So here is my tally for this month:
The Unknown Terrorist by Richard Flanagan The Coroner's Lunch (Dr. Siri Paiboun, #1) by Colin Cotterill Wanting by Richard Flanagan On Beauty by Zadie Smith La Grenouille qui Aimait les Mathématiques by Faiz Kermani

And I am currently reading:
This Earth of Mankind (The Buru Quartet, #1) by Pramoedya Ananta Toer
