That's also a new name for me. Thanks so much for the recommendation! I'm heading back to Amazon now. :)
I recommend anything by Willbur Smith, and I especially recall River GodAlso, many years ago I really enjoyed The Egyptian by Mika Waltari as someone else mentioned.
Recently I read Cleopatra: A Life by Stacy Schiff and thought it was very good.
A new novel, CLEOPATRA'S SHADOWS, will be out on October 6. The story is mainly about her sisters, Arsinoe and Berenice, who are caught up in the tribulations of the throne. It is by Emily Holleman. I had an advanced copy, and thought it was excellent.
Lexi wrote: "Do you have any books that you know of that are historical romance adventure that you would suggest to a high schooler? Because I love to read and cant seem to find any good books."Bird's Eye View is about an 18-year-old girl who joins the Air Force in World War Two. Lots of drama and romance, plus it is factually accurate and educational.
Bird's Eye View
.. Just a suggestion... my novel, The Angel of Innisfree, is written about two love-struck teenagers that make their way through life after leaving Ireland during the time of the great Potato Famine (1848). The events and historical characters in the setting of the story (e.g., Chopin living and teaching piano in Paris, Lincoln's use of the telegraph to help win the civil war etc.) are accurate, so this would probably be a good way for young adult readers to learn quite a bit of history while they follow the romance between the two main characters.
Lexi wrote: "I looked at both books and they look good! Thanks I hope I can find The Angel of Innisfree to read. I did find Bird's Eye View and am reading it now! thanks for your help"Let me know if you'd like a copy of The Angel of Innisfree and I'll send you a free eBook. I'd love a review on Goodreads when you finish the book.
Try Behind Palace Walls by Erin Chase. It's a new release (released last night) but I had the pleasure of previewing it. Very promising for a first author!
Lexi wrote: "Beverly wrote: "I suggest you take a look at The Stolen Girl" by Zia Wesley. See my review on Goodreads."Thanks! I just finished reading it, it took a long time for my library to get it for me so ..."
Great! So glad you liked it.

You might also want to read My Name is Mary Sutter by Robin Oliveira and The Princess Bride by William Goldman. I also loved Whistling in the Dark by Lesley Kagen.

Because I love to read and cant seem to find any good books."Can I recommend my own book Whatever You Say, Say Nothing - it's a historical romance, set in Dublin in 1920 - a love triangle: Aisling runs away to Dublin after the British Army murder her father and burn down her town. She finds work as a maid for Harry Lovegrove, a British Army officer. Patrick, a volunteer for the Irish Republican Army, recruits her to spy on Harry; but then she finds she is falling in love with Harry, and Patrick finds he is falling in love with her ...
Another great historical romance with an Irish setting is Joseph O'Connor's Star of the Sea.
Right now I'm reading a library copy of Her Brother's Crown, by Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould. It's about the persecution suffered by the Hugenots in France. Both authors have previously written Amish fiction, so it's written along those lines. It's a series, too, so if you like that type of story, give it a try.

This thread is focused on Ancient Egypt. Perhaps there's an author thread elsewhere in this group where this would be appropriate?
Christian Jacq - my favourite ancient egypt novelist by some distance. The Ramses series is wonderful! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

These kept me captivated throughout. I read them not long after they were published, some, er, oooh, 18 years ago. My word! Where's that gone?

Thank you. Have a good day.
I'm totally consumed by my current read, The Edge of Freedom by Dana Vacca.
I finished Vacca's previous book, Freedom Calling and thoroughly enjoyed it. And The Edge of Freedom has definitely hooked me completely! The history of the US Civil War era is accurate (I'm a Civil War buff!)
It's about an escaped slave, but the story is not the usual fare, and is as exciting as it is spiritual and inspirational!
Vivid characters that you can laugh, love and cry with!
I give a thumbs up both books.

What can you suggest? I've been searching Amazon and my eyes are about crossed -- lots out there but I can't tell what's worth my time and what's worth passing on.
If you can help, thank you!
