sera | 42 comments think this is pre algebra not sure

so im like super embarrassed that i can't do this but a friend asked for math help and i honestly dont know how to solve this oops ahaha

it's asking to find the perimeter of the regular polygons if all the sides are the same

one of the problems is a triangle
one of the sides equals 5 - 2x and the other side is -4x + 9

idk whut to do & she doesn't either sooo

Ask your friend if the sides of the triangles have measurements by them. For instant if you had a triangle, & it had 4 cm along every side.

sera | 42 comments uhh all it tells her are the two expressions i listed above ^ and nothing else?

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

What type of triangle is it? Isosceles, or scalene?

message 6: by sera (new)

sera | 42 comments equilateral

OH. WAIT
All the sides are equal? Then you set it up like this:

5-2x = -4x+9

Because the two sides equal each other. Then just solve for X and plug it back in to find the length of one side and then multiply that by three for the perimeter.

It comes out to be 9 for the perimeter.

You're sure this is Pre-Al?
I took it last year, but I don't recall doing a problem like this..."

she told me it's pre-al but i'm not sure myself bc i don't remember problems like these either
