Despite its title, not all stories are actually set in the future, but are rather set in the past or around the year 2000 (the collection was published in 1999) as a way of looking at hour our past and present situations can impact the future. My favorite was Katherine Paterson's "The Last Dog," which, incidentally IS set in the future.
