Emma Jaye | 3693 comments This is a general group. In joining this group you have agreed TO REVIEW ANY ALLOCATED BOOK within the set 12 week limit.
If you don’t agree to that tell me now so that I can find another member who will do so.
There is no genre filtering.

If you are only willing to review your own preferred genres then sorry, but you’re better off finding a group that specialises in your preference, or joining one of the 18+ rounds or a ‘clean’ review round. In this general group you might be asked to review fiction/non-fiction, adults’/children’s books, a religious text, BDSM, or anything in between. Allocation is entirely random and there will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate genre preference. The ONLY circumstance in which you may duck out of giving a review is if YOU provide a stand-in reviewer.

Let’s be honest here – we don’t all like the same things but we all want reviews. The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:

Noorilhuda Noorilhuda | 522 comments Emma, room for me? Am part of G73 and have reviewed Florian Armas' Io Deceneus.
Noorilhuda
Catharsis

message 4: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments As you haven't finished your reviews for that group Noorilhuda, I think we'd better give some other people a chance to join in a group first.

message 5: by Pearson (last edited Sep 06, 2015 08:32AM) (new)

Pearson Moore I would like to add my novel of prehistoric fiction, Fire Wolf. I have completed all of my assigned reviews in the Review Group. I have reviewed novels by group members Darrell B. Nelson, Michael O'Reilly, Noorilhuda, Nikole Bloom, and Lisa Karlin. Fire Wolf is 134,000 words in length and 'clean' (no sex scenes, no coarse language of any kind), though there is occasional violence, including injuries during hunting and a few murders. Here is the Goodreads link to Fire Wolf:

Darrell Nelson | 360 comments Hey Emma,
I'd like to join. My novel for this round is Mind Thief. I'll be finishing up the reviews for Group 73 this week. I've reviewed Noorilhuba's book. Pearson has reviewed my book "Showgirls and Aliens" but not Mind Thief.

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments As you're already signed up for the epic round Pearson (along with Noorihulda) I'll wait and see how many other people want to be in this one.
Darrell, welcome aboard.

Kat Ryan (katryan) | 11 comments Hi Emma! Thank so much, I am so excited to be part of the group. My book is Confessions of the Perfect Mom. Please let me know what else you need :)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments I think from the length of your book Kat, you have a choice about which group you join, the general (this one) the clean group or the novella group.
I will need your goodreads book link to sign you up.

message 11: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments All signed up Barbara, thanks for stepping forward to mod this one.

message 12: by Kat (new)

Kat Ryan (katryan) | 11 comments Perfect Emma. For the clean group does that include language? Cause I do use some choice language :). Can I be in two groups?

Here is the goodreads book link
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Thanks again

message 13: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments One group at a time I'm afraid, although if you have finished all your reviews you are free to join another if there is one open.
I'll add you to this one, the clean group rules say that if anyone is offended by your book, and the mod agrees that it is offensive, they don't have to review it, but you still have to do your four reviews.
I'm probably not the best person to judge what is offensive or what isn't, as all my work is....spicy.

message 14: by Kat (new)

Kat Ryan (katryan) | 11 comments lol sounds good! Then I am excited to be part of this one :)

message 15: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Welcome Carly.

message 16: by Neil (new)

Neil Carstairs | 662 comments Hi Emma

If possible I would like to join this Group with my new novel

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

author page https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

I have completed all my reviews in Group 71 but as part of that group I reviewed Florian's Io Deceneus

message 17: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Great timing Neil, you've signed up just in the place where I can keep you and Florian apart.

message 18: by Neil (new)

Neil Carstairs | 662 comments Thanks Emma, it's not often I get my timing right

message 19: by Hock (new)

Hock Tjoa (hockgtjoa) | 946 comments I'd be interested but I have reviewed by Barbara and Noorilhuda (Anna Fantabulous), and have reviewed Florian.

My new book is
The Ninja and the Diplomat

message 20: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Neil's pinched the only non-reciprocal review spot with Florian Hock, sorry!

message 21: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Welcome Lily.

message 22: by Remesh (new)

Remesh R. | 12 comments I have also applied to the novella list. I hope that won't be a problem.

Book: Diary of a Stranger
Author: Remesh R.

message 23: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Sorry Remesh as a new member its one group at time I'm afraid, let me know if you want to be in this one instead.

message 24: by Remesh (new)

Remesh R. | 12 comments I can handle it; but if you can't allow it, I'll go with the novella list.

message 25: by Gloria (new)

Gloria Piper | 197 comments Wow, these groups can fill up fast. Is there room for me? I have several books.

My newest is Water Pearl.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

message 27: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments welcome aboard Gloria. Can I remind everyone to check if you have reviewed or been reviewed by anyone in this group so I can iron out any clashes.

message 28: by Florian (new)

Florian Armas (goodreadscomflorianarmas) | 436 comments I reviewed Gloria's Train to Nowhere

message 29: by Emma (last edited Sep 08, 2015 01:10AM) (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Thanks Florian, I've changed the order so she won't be reviewing you. You can still review her book as it is a different one.

message 30: by T.S. (new)

T.S. O'Neil (tsoneil) | 177 comments Can I still get in on this review round?

message 31: by Pearson (new)

Pearson Moore I'd like to join the group. I see only one author (Darrell B. Nelson) whose book I've reviewed, so there is only one small conflict to work around. It looks like Group 77, a group I've asked to join, will not fill for several weeks or months. I could of course wait until December or January to have my book reviewed, but since I've reviewed only one book in Group 75, and I read and review quickly and thoroughly (my reviews average around 1100 words), I think I'd make a good addition to the group. My novel is Fire Wolf:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

message 32: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Yes you can T.S. Let me know which book you wish to include.

Pearson, as I have said this privately already, and you are still making the same request, I'll say it publicly this time.
You have already signed up for another group, the one that was set up with you in mind. I am trying to let the most authors possible participate in a review round. I have had to say no to several other people recently as well to give everyone a fair chance.
Myself and the other mods are doing the best we can to be fair to all.

message 35: by Pearson (new)

Pearson Moore Emma,
No problem! I saw that Barbara Land was now in charge of this group. I went to her Goodreads page, hoping I could message or email her to inquire about joining Group 75. I know admission criteria are left to moderators and I thought her criteria may have differed from yours. When I found neither messaging nor email options on her page, I came to this, the Group 75 page, to inquire about the possibility of joining the group. I respected your previous decision, and I respect your present decision to exclude me from this group. Further, I am grateful that you allowed me into Group 73 and that you set up Group 77 for people like me who have written epic novels. So please again accept my gratitude for these kindnesses. I meant no disrespect in inquiring of the new group moderator regarding the possibility of joining Group 75. Thank you!

message 36: by Kayne (new)

Kayne Milhomme | 26 comments Hi Emma,

I'd like to join if possible. I have reviewed Gloria Piper's 'Train to Nowhere.'

A link to my novel on Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

message 37: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Why did you think admission criteria was up to individual moderators Pearson? There is only one database, so one poor mug gets the job of handling all of it.
Happens to be me (group admin). The review round mod only takes over when the group is up and running.

You're in Kane, which make up our ten members. Watch this space while I have fun with the database and excel. I'll post the order later today so you can get this show on the road.

message 38: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments You're welcome, I found the group so useful, I decided to support it by becoming a mod.
if anyone is ever tempted to dip a toe in the water, we can always do with other group mods. The more we have, the more groups we can have.

Please remember the commitment you are making to your fellow group members. If you don’t think you can manage to do 4 book reviews between these dates please let me know now. I will find someone else for this group and you will be able to choose a later group that will be more suitable for you. If you pull out after the start date for any reason it is the other members who will be faced with the problem of finding a replacement, or missing out on reviews, through no fault of their own. Please don’t ask the moderators to chase after replacements as we just don’t have the time.

It is the responsibility of the author to get their book to their reviewer in a format the reviewer can manage. There are no set dates for the start of each round. You can each work at your own pace, within the limits of the round deadlines. All reviews must be posted by .

When you have posted your review on GR please post a link to your review in this thread.

All reviews must be posted to GR, Amazon .com and Amazon.co.uk.

Postings to any other sites are by agreement by both author and reviewer.

If I’ve missed something that results in you being asked to review someone who has already reviewed you, please let me know asap.

You have the next week to exchange your book files. My advice is to use PM to give email addresses to each other (save the chance of spammers getting your addies from this open forum). Please direct enquiries to Barbara from now on, as I'm moving on to form one of the other groups. Happy reviewing, everyone :)

Welcome to Group 75!

For those of you who are newbies, here are some links and/or instructions that will help you become a successful reviewer here at Goodreads:

How it Works:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

FAQ:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

After reading these two articles, you’ll have a good idea how the Review Groups work and what will be expected from you as a participant.

So what is a review and how do I write one?
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

This article will guide you in the steps to writing an effective review for your fellow authors.

How to post your links to Goodreads, Amazon and Amazon UK:

Goodreads – Your review may or may not come up on a separate page after posting depending on the location where you posted it from originally. If the review appears on a page all its own, just copy the URL at the top of the browser window. You’ll want to include the numbers that come after “show/” in the URL, but nothing else. Like this: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show.... Goodreads may have truncated that URL but if you want to see it in its entirety, just click on it and look at it in the top of the browser window.

If it doesn’t come up on a separate page, go to your own page and scroll down to your reviews. Click on "more" at the end of the review you're posting and it will take you to the dedicated page. Then follow the instructions above.

Amazon and Amazon UK – You write your review and then submit it. For some people it takes a while for the review to post, for others, it happens instantly. Once you believe your review has posted (either by seeing it on the book page or waiting for Amazon to email you and tell you it’s up):

Go to the book page. Go to the end of the reviews and click on “see all XX customer reviews (newest first)”. Find your review – at the bottom of your review you’ll see three buttons: report abuse, permalink and comment. Click on permalink. (If you don’t see the three buttons, as sometimes happens on Amazon UK, just click on the review title.) This will bring your review to a separate page. You'll now copy the URL at the top of the page. This time, you’ll want to include the numbers that come after “review/” in the URL, but nothing else:
http://www.amazon.com/review/RO95W1MY...

You can test either of these methods by taking the link you’ve copied and pasting it into a new browser window.

~~¤¤¤~~

Please address direct questions to an individual via PM (private message) and more general questions to the group on this thread.

Today is our official start date, and I’ll repeat here what Emma has already said: you don’t have to post each review by the dates included above, but please do complete all four reviews by our end date of December 3rd.

Also, please post three links on this thread as you complete each review (one here at Goodreads, at Amazon and Amazon UK) so I don’t have to run halfway across the world to find them all. And finally, please remind me when you post each review of the name of the book you’ve reviewed along with the author’s name.

Thanks and good reading!

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments And with Barbara officially taking over, I will gracefully bow out (or as gracefully as I can manage) and go set up some more groups.

Happy reviewing everyone.

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, and one more thing … based on recent events that have occurred, I’d like to provide a few reminders regarding writing reviews and why we’re all here.

This cannot be stated strongly enough: the books you’ll be reviewing are probably not ones you would have chosen to read. Taking that into consideration, please don’t say anything like the following in your reviews:

“Although this book is very well written, it doesn’t align with my spiritual beliefs so I can only give it three stars.”

“I object to the overt sexual scenes contained in this book and for that reason, I can only give it two stars.”

“The subject matter of this book is not to my taste.”

… or anything like that, because not every book is going to perfectly align with your spiritual views, your ethics, morals or interests. Please remember that your reviews will be posted on the two Amazon sites and as such, will carry great weight with potential readers.

Having said that, please do critique various aspects of the writing, such as Jay advises in the article I posted above (including characters, story, pace and structure, use of language, narrative voice, dialogue, settings and themes) and then rate the book accordingly.

If you find grammatical errors, mention that as well if it detracted from your enjoyment of the book, but please don’t write an 1100 word review based almost entirely on those errors.

A “good” review of a book doesn’t mean that it’s a five star review – it means that it’s a fair and balanced critique of the writing.

Thank you for your time.
