I keep meaining to, but there is always other books I want to read more.
Plus I won't watch the movie until I've read the book lol.

Agreed! i mean about the movie part anyway. im dead set on rereading Divergent. sooo excited for the movie

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

I get really nervous when they turn a book into a movie or tv series.
Hopefully they didn't completely change anything for Great Gatsby or Divergent.

message 6: by Lola (new)

Lola (lolsbukowski) I had to read it for my high school English Lit class. Frankly, I remember squat; and I might have BS'D on my essay. I did watch the movie, the story is a very good one; the director made some interesting artistic choices, in short, it's not for everyone. DiCaprio was spot on, as per usual.

One of my all time favorite quotes is from The Great Gatsby, "I hope she'll be a fool -- that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”

Lola (lolsbukowski) Guys, let's get to know each other a little.

Question #1

What was the first book or series you remember picking up and reading on your own?

As for me, probably Animorphs; but that I still can remember the plot to, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Go.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

I remember getting the book, I was the most happiest person in the world.
I still have the book. A bit beat up, but I love it all the same.

message 12: by Emily (new)

Emily - Reads Must | 32 comments Mine was A Series of Unfortunate Events too.

I hated reading when I was younger, but I read these when I was 12/13 and I've been a book nerd ever since. I used to steel them from my brother when he wasn't looking, he always got really confused when the book mark wasn't where he'd left it ;)

hmmm mine would have to be Alice in Wonderland (the book book version not the picture book). There is something so enchanting about that world. call me pretentious, but that book will ever continue to be my favorite

message 17: by Lola (last edited Mar 17, 2014 06:24PM) (new)

Lola (lolsbukowski) @Mo
Ahh, Alice in Wonderland. I was infatuated with Lewis Carroll in, I want to say, 10th grade? The character, Alice, was inspired by a little girl Carroll was actually, secretly in love with.
I remember this boy in my class noticed my infatuation and surprised me with a physical copy of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass on Valentine's Day... here comes the nostalgia.

aw <3

I adore it, every part of me adores it. I remember it was a hard read though and I had a huge dictionary by me, but I could not stop reading it.

Actually, I loved reading before Alice in Wonderland, but I didn't do it as often. I read AiW in 4th grade with a huge dictionary by me, and idk why but it finally set on me that I could read like that everyday if I wanted to

I have a worn copy of the book, i want a new one!

oh dear I just finished my review of it if you care to read it, it is on my profile and I am just so upset I could not even (view spoiler)

Did you like Daisy?

message 21: by Lola (new)

Lola (lolsbukowski) I read your review:)

No, a thousand times over, no, I did not like Daisy. I can't say I'd have done things differently, she was awfully unhappy, Gatsby was her escape from that reality. I don't think anyone can honestly say they've never turned a blind eye to a harsh fact in their lives and conducted themselves in a less than dignified manner.

But still, she looked out only for herself, especially after someone went to such great lengths for her.

Okay now I really want to read it now.
I love books like this, where it brings out peoples feelings.

message 23: by Lydia (new)

Lydia I don't really remember the first book i picked up to read by myself. I do know that when I was little my neighbor read me A Series Of Unfortunate Events. I don't really remember much of it though :/. I hated reading until about third grade. Then I fell in love. I think it was because we read The Last Of The Really Great Wang-doodle.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm good today actually.
My Game of Thrones board game is arriving today (which has taken over a week). So as soon as that arrives I'll be playing it.
Other than that it's house work, reading and controlling my son lol.

How are you @Mo :D ?

how old is your son?

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Two and a half.
All day I hear him making tractor, motor bike and chain saw noises. And oddly enough they all sound different lol.

message 30: by a (new)

a k (complxus) Aww. Cute :)

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

He can be a cutie.
But I'm surprised on how much energy kids have. He literaly (and I'm not joking) will not stop running around ALL day. Just watching him my energy seems to die lol.
And I did name him after my favourite character in a movie lol Brandon Fraiser who plays Rick in the Mummy hahahaha.

message 32: by Lola (last edited Mar 20, 2014 08:09PM) (new)

Lola (lolsbukowski) His name's Rick!
Or could it be O'Connell? :'D

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

@Yaya it's Rick. I couldn't convince my partner on that or both together lol.

message 34: by Lola (new)

Lola (lolsbukowski) Ugh, is anyone else rendered completely immobile during that dreaded time of the month?

okay so i need to write a story with like an "inspiring theme" which means like someone is in a difficult situation like poverty or a dieseased family member and i really need one of you to pick a dark theme like that for me

message 49: by Emily (new)

Emily - Reads Must | 32 comments RIGHT... how about someone who's homeless? You can look at the way people pretend that they don't exist, like just because you don't have a home it somehow make you less of a human being? Also a lot of people of the streets have to battle with starvation as well...

Hope that helps some how. Why on earth do you need something so dark though??
